Sarah Michelle Gellar joins cast of ‘Dexter’ prequel series ‘Original Sin’

Sarah Michelle Gellar has joined the cast of Showtime’s ‘Dexter’ prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin. Deadline reported that Gellar, 47, will guest star as Tanya Martin, the CSI Chief at the Miami Metro Police Department and Dexter Morgan’s new boss, in the Paramount+ with Showtime series.

Dexter: Original Sin is a prequel to the Showtime series Dexter, which had an eight-season run from 2006 to 2013. Patrick Gibson will play a young Dexter Morgan, the vigilante serial killer portrayed by Michael C. Hall in the original show. Gellar joins Gibson and previously announced stars Christian Slater (Dexter’s adoptive father, Harry) and Molly Brown (Dexter’s sister Debra). Other cast members include Patrick Dempsey, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu and Reno Wilson.

The official description of Dexter: Original Sin reads: “Set in 1991 Miami, Dexter: Original Sin follows Dexter as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”

Nina L. Diaz, president of content and CCO, Showtime, said: “Sarah Michelle Gellar is a pop culture icon who perfectly rounds out our best-in-class cast featuring Christian Slater and Patrick Dempsey among others. We’re thrilled to have her return to the Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios family and join the origin story of the Dexter franchise.”

Bob Dylan ‘The 1974 Live Recordings’ box set to be released in September

Bob Dylan announced details of a new box set called ‘The 1974 Live Recordings’ – a compilation of his arena performances across the year. The project is a new 431-track collection of his performances with The Band, which is set to be released across 27 discs on September 20th.

The deluxe box set features 417 previously-unreleased performances, as well as newly-mixed recordings and liner notes written by journalist and critic Elizabeth Nelson. A press release read: “Booked into arenas for the first time ever, Bob Dylan and The Band performed 30 dates in 42 days (often playing two sets per day) before an average audience of 18,500 – helping set a new standard for what rock concerts could look and sound like. Though they might not have known it at the time, Bob Dylan and The Band were at the vanguard of a new era. Tour ‘74 would help create the template for the major rock tour, and codify many of its shared experiences – from the sight of audiences holding up lighters en masse, to the bright flash of the house lights during a show’s signal moment, in this case their performance of ‘Like A Rolling Stone’.

Third Man Records has also announced the upcoming release of ‘The 1974 Live Recordings – The Missing Songs From Before the Flood’, a 3-LP set culled from the same recordings, featuring hand-selected versions of every song Bob Dylan recorded that was not included on the original 1974 live album.

In honor of the box set announcement, a never-before-released version of ‘Forever Young’ – recorded live in Seattle on February 9, 1974 – has been released. Check it out – here.

Hyundai recalling over 67,000 vehicles in the U.S for loss of drive power

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (‘NHTSA’), Hyundai Motor America is recalling nearly 67,000 vehicles in the U.S. over loss of drive power from a fuel pump failure and about 12,349 Santa Fe Vehicles over a software error in the transmission control unit. The recall impacts certain 2019-2023 models of Genesis G70, Veloster N, Elantra N, and Kona N.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed out by Sept. 9, 2024; the agency’s recall notice states that to remedy the issue, Hyundai dealers will install an updated fuel control valve (FCV) plunger design and revised engine ECM software logic.

According to NHTSA recall documents, premature wearing of the fuel control valve in the high-pressure fuel pump “could allow excess fuel to enter the fuel pump and the air and fuel mixture can result in a reduction or loss of motive power at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.” Indications that there might be an issue include, “MIL illumination, lack of power, rough idle or misfire.”

Hyundai said in a statement to ABC News on Thursday that “to ensure the safety of its customers, Hyundai Motor North America and Genesis Motor North America has filed recall campaign 262/023G to address a condition involving the high-pressure fuel pump assemblies in certain Hyundai and Genesis vehicles produced for sale in the U.S. and Canada … There are no confirmed crashes or injuries related to this condition in the U.S. or Canada.”

To see if any recalls were issued on your vehicle, search NHTSA’s database for new recalls. The NHTSA website allows you to search for recalls based on your vehicle identification number or VIN.

Cincinnati Bengals announce Corey Dillon, Tim Krumrie to be inducted into 2024 Ring of Honor Class

The Cincinnati Bengals announced that Corey Dillon and Tim Krumrie will be honored this fall as the newest members of the team’s Ring of Honor, established in 2021. The former players will be formally inducted at halftime of the Bengals’ Monday Night Football game vs. the Washington Commanders on Sept. 23, airing on ESPN. Bengals season-ticket members selected Dillon and Krumrie from a ballot of 11 candidates as this year’s inductees

Dillon is the Bengals’ all-time leading rusher with 8,061 yards. A four-time Pro Bowl running back, Dillon spent his first seven NFL seasons (1997-03) in Cincinnati, and started his career with six consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. He was a Pro Bowler each year from 1999-01, breaking Walter Payton’s 23-year-old single-game rushing record by rumbling for 278 yards in a win over the Broncos in Week 8 of the 2000 season. Dillon finished his final three seasons with the New England Patriots, winning a Super Bowl ring with the Patriots in 2004. His 11,241 career rushing yards rank No. 20 on the all-time list.

Dillon said in a statement: “When I first heard the news from [Bengals owner] Mike Brown, it brought more joy to that day instantly. We had a great conversation. It means a lot. It’s my legacy. I’m happy and fortunate that this is happening at this time. I’m ecstatic about it. I have to thank the fans for the love and support. It’s been an awesome year getting to know everybody. I can’t thank them enough.”

Bengals owners Mike Brown said of Dillon: “Corey not only was strong and fast with great balance — he was durable. He could take a lot of snaps. He was the one who carried the ball for us. That’s what we could do best then — run the ball. Teams recognized that and would play a heavy front against us. It didn’t matter. He would just run through them as though they were in a passing setup.”

Krumrie, a nose tackle, joins Boomer Esiason and Anthony Munoz as members of the Bengals’ 1988 team in the Ring of Honor. Krumrie joined the Bengals as a 10th-round pick in the 1983 NFL Draft, spending his entire 12-year career with the Bengals before retiring in 1994. Krumrie earned consecutive Pro Bowl nods in the late ’80s and performed at an All-Pro level during the 1988 season to help the Bengals reach Super Bowl XXIII. He suffered a broken leg in the Super Bowl, however, which sidelined Krumrie for the majority of Cincinnati’s 20-16 loss to San Francisco. Despite the injury, Krumrie did not miss a single game during his final six seasons. He is sixth in Bengals franchise history in games played (188) and first in career solo tackles (1,008). His 188 appearances are the most ever for a Bengals defensive or offensive lineman.

Krumrie shared in a statement: “I’d like to thank the Cincinnati Bengals fans for their votes and for recognizing my play on the field and the effort I put into every game. I’m proud to have my name alongside my 1988 teammates who helped make my dream of playing in a Super Bowl come true, as well as the other deserving Ring of Honor members. I’d especially like to thank Mike Brown for giving this farm boy from Wisconsin a chance to succeed in the NFL. This is an honor beyond anything I could imagine.”
