Rudy Giuliani disbarred in New York for ‘false and misleading’ statements on 2020 election

Rudy Giuliani — former NYC mayor and ex-attorney to Donald Trump — was disbarred on Tuesday in a decision handed down by the Appellate Division First Department in New York. The state court stripped Giuliani of his law license over his efforts to help subvert and overturn the 2020 election.

The New York Appellate Division ruled to disbar Giuliani “effective immediately” saying he made “demonstrably false and misleading statements to courts, lawmakers, and the public at large in his capacity as lawyer” for former President Donald Trump and his 2020 presidential campaign, in connection with Trump’s failed effort at reelection in 2020.

Per ABC News, the 31-page ruling adds: “Contrary to respondent’s allegations, there is nothing on the record before us that would permit the conclusion that respondent lacked knowledge of the falsehood of the numerous statements that he made, and that he had a good faith basis to believe them to be true.” The decision by the New York panel noted that “the seriousness of respondent’s misconduct cannot be overstated,” adding that Giuliani”not only deliberately violated some of the most fundamental tenets of the legal profession, but he also actively contributed to the national strife that has followed the 2020 Presidential election, for which he is entirely unrepentant.”

Giuliani was admitted to New York’s bar in 1969 but had his state license to practice law suspended in 2021 over his work to overturn the election, and later suspended in Washington. Giuliani claimed he believed the statements at the time he was making them but the court was not persuaded.

Giuliani’s political advisor Ted Goodman told The Hill that the former mayor intends to appeal the decision: “Members of the legal community who respect the rule of law in this country should immediately come forward and speak out against this politically and ideologically corrupted decision. We will be appealing this objectively flawed decision in hopes that the appellate process will restore integrity into our system of justice.”

Donovan Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to terms of a new three-year, $150.5 million maximum contract extension, including a player option for the 2027-28 season (per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski).

Mitchell, 27, was under contract for one more season; the new deal means he can become a free agent in three years, and also allows Mitchell to reach 10-year criteria, making him eligible for a next extension worth $380 million.

Kemba Walker, UCONN legend and 4x NBA All-Star, announces retirement from basketball

Four-time NBA All-Star guard and UCONN legend Kemba Walker, 34, announced on social media that he is retiring from basketball.

Walker, who didn’t play in the NBA this past season (instead playing in the EuroLeague with AS Monaco), spent 12 NBA seasons with the Charlotte Hornets, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks. Walker also led the UConn Huskies to the 2011 NCAA title, scoring 23.5 points per game that season.

Walker his statement on X alongside the caption: “Thank you, basketball”. The statement read: “I want to start this by thanking God for everything he has given me. Basketball has done more for me than I could’ve ever imagined, and I am super thankful for the amazing journey I’ve had. With that, I’m here to share that I am officially retiring from the game of basketball. This has all been a dream. When I look back, I still can’t believe the things I achieved in my career. I know I couldn’t have made it to this point without my incredible support system around me. There are so many people to thank — my mom, dad and entire family, my teammates who have become family, and the coaches who believe in me and brought out the best in me. Basketball will forever be a part of my life so this isn’t goodbye. I’m excited for what’s next.”

Walker first rose to national prominence at UConn, and is perhaps still best known for his game-winning shot to beat Pittsburgh in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Big East Tournament. He then led the Huskies to the Big East Tournament and NCAA Tournament titles later that season, and was named Most Outstanding Player of the latter event. (per CBS Sports.)

Walker, who was selected No. 9 overall in the 2012 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Bobcats, spent his first eight seasons in Charlotte and made three All-Star appearances, an All-NBA Second Team and helped the franchise make the playoffs twice in 2014 and 2016. He was traded to the Boston Celtics ahead of the 2019-20 season, where he made another All-Star team in his first year and went on to play three more NBA seasons. Despite his success, lingering knee issues alongside three surgeries throughout his career limited him to nine games in his final NBA season with the Dallas Mavericks. Walker ends his NBA career as the Hornets’ all-time leader in points, 3-pointers, win shares and minutes played

Walker averaged 19.3 points, 5.3 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game in 12 NBA seasons, shooting 41.8% from the field and 36% from 3-point distance.

Take a look at Miranda Lambert’s video for ‘Wranglers’

Miranda Lambert has released a music video for her new song “Wranglers”, filmed outside Austin, Texas.

Miranda said of the new music video: “‘Wranglers’ is a classic tale of a woman taking her power back. I think we can all identify with the character in this video because we have all had a time in our life where we needed to find our strength and also get a little revenge on someone who did us wrong or hurt us. This offers such a cool, raging take on how something like this unravels; I am so proud to sing this song.”

The video is directed by Lambert’s longtime collaborator Trey Fanjoy, the creative force behind nearly all of her music videos, and features Miranda’s childhood best friend, Laci, who also appeared in “White Liar.”

Heart postpones 2024 ‘Royal Flush Tour’ after Ann Wilson’s cancer diagnosis

Heart announced it has postponed its 2024 Royal Flush Tour after Ann Wilson was recently diagnosed with cancer. The band’s team is working on rescheduling the dates in 2025, with more details to follow.

Wilson, who said she will be undergoing “preventative chemotherapy,” posted on social media: “I recently underwent an operation to remove something that, as it turns out, was cancerous. The operation was successful & I’m feel great but my doctors are now advising me to undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy & I’ve decided to do it. And so my doctors are instructing me to take the rest of the year away from the stage in order to fully recover. To the ticket buyers, I really do wish we could do these gigs. Please know that I absolutely plan to be back on stage in 2025. My team is getting those details sorted & we’ll let you know the plan as soon as we can.  Thank you for all the support. This is merely a pause. I’ve much more to sing.”

Wilson, 74, ended her post with: “Respectfully, this is the last public statement I’d like to make on the matter.”

Wilson’s cancer announcement comes weeks after she and her sister Nancy, 70, announced the cancellation of a string of June and July concerts in Europe (which had bee scheduled from June 20th through July 12th, featuring Squeeze) while Wilson underwent a medical procedure. At the time, the band cited that the singer had to have “a time-sensitive but routine procedure for which the minimum recovery time is six weeks.”  Cheap Trick was set to support the dates with Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening and Bachman Turner Overdrive featuring Randy Bachman playing select stops.
