Death toll climbs to over 80 in Southeast after destruction from Helene

CBS News has confirmed that at over 80 people are dead in five states after storm Helene made landfall Thursday night in Florida’s Big Bend region as a Category 4 hurricane with wind of 140mph, causing devastation with torrential rain, wind and flooding over the entire southeast as it moved inland. Helene was the third hurricane to hit the Big Bend region in the last 13 months.  While Helene is expected to dissipate Monday, it remains a threat for parts of the Appalachians with heavy rains and flash flooding expected to continue.

As of Sunday over 2.4 million customers remain without electricity across several states, with roads underwater, and other essential services washed away by Helene. Officials told The New York Times that parts of South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia have all been devastated and the death toll will continue to rise. Authorities rushed to airdrop supplies and restore roads after massive rains from the powerful Helene left people stranded and without shelter.

At least 11 people were killed in Florida, nine of whom were confirmed by Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, with other deaths in Florida occurring in Dixie County and in Tampa. In Georgia, 17 are reported dead, with at least two deaths due to a tornado; Gov. Brian Kemp said Saturday that it “looks like a bomb went off” in the area.

In South Carolina, 25 people died from the storm, officials confirmed, while in North Carolina there have been at least 21 storm-related deaths. According to North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, the flooding in the state is “biblical.” All roads in western North Carolina have been closed to all but emergency vehicles.

Denver Broncos RB Tyler Badie carted off field during game vs. Jets with back injury

Denver Broncos running back Tyler Badie was carted off the sidelines and placed on a backboard by medical personne between the first and second quarters of Sunday’s game against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.  The Broncos went on to win against the Jets, 10-9.

Badie was taken to the team’s locker room on a cart at the start of the second quarter against the New York Jets on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. The Broncos initially announced Badie had a back injury and said his return was questionable, before later ruling him out.

After taking a massive tackle from the back from Jets linebacker Quincy Williams on a third down, Badie fumbled but was able to walk to the sideline on his own (it appears that Williams’ helmet struck Badie in the lower back during the play). Shortly thereafter he appeared to collapse to the ground, and was seen receiving medical attention while on one knee.  After a few minutes a backboard was brought out, and Badie was strapped down and carted off the field

Badie spent all of the 2023 season and the first three weeks of this season on the Broncos’ practice squad, but had been promoted to the active roster this week. He entered the game with 86 yards on 10 carries.

Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence out 4-8 weeks with foot injury

According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, the Dallas Cowboys will likely send DeMarcus Lawrence to IR after suffering a Lisfranc injury to his right foot. Lawrence is looking at a potential return in November, if his recovery goes as planned.

The injury to Lawrence took place during the Cowboys 20-15 win over the New York Giants on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium in NJ.  Lawrence went down in the third quarter while trying to chase down Giants quarterback Daniel Jone, landing awkwardly on his right foot while doing so.  The defensive end eventually went to the sidelines and left the game, where he was ruled out.  Before leaving the game, Lawrence had two total tackles (he has 14 total tackles and three sacks this season, his 11th with the Cowboys).

Luckily for Lawrence and the Cowboy, he will not need to undergo surgery as the bones in his foot were not displaced. The Cowboys play the Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions the next two weeks before their bye week on Oct. 20th.

Riley Green new album ‘Don’t Mind If I Do’ to feature Luke Bryan, Ella Langley

Riley Green will release his third studio album, Don’t Mind If I Do, on October 18 (his birthday). Shared Green:“My brand-new album Don’t Mind If I Do will be out October 18. It feels fitting that it’s coming out on my birthday because this project feels very true to who I am, where I come from and what I’ve learned along the way. I can’t wait for y’all to hear it!”

Don’t Mind If I Do follows Riley’s sophomore album, Ain’t My Last Rodeo, which featured the hit songs “Different ‘Round Here” and “Damn Good Day To Leave” in addition to the fan-favorite tracks “My Last Rodeo,” “Mississippi or Me,” “Damn Country Music,” “Copenhagen In A Cadillac (feat. Jelly Roll)” and more.

According to a press release, Don’t Mind If I Do (produced by Dan Huff alongside executive producers Scott Borchetta and Jimmy Harnen) sees Green “lean even further into pulling inspiration from his small-town life in rural Alabama to deliver an honest, relatable and at times humorous 18-track project.”  Don’t Mind If I Do also includes two duets, “Reel Problems” with Luke Bryan and “Don’t Mind If I Do” with his “You Look Like You Love Me” collaborator, Ella Langley.

Riley shares of the title track “Don’t Mind If I Do”, featuring Ella Langley: “I wrote this song based off the line ‘I’m one memory away from falling all the way apart,’ trying to capture that moment when you think you’re almost over someone, but one thought can pull you back into how much you miss that relationship. It quickly evolved into a duet, and I didn’t really have Ella in mind for this song, but I had her originally cut vocals on it for a demo, and she killed it in the studio. I couldn’t imagine having someone else on the song after hearing her sing it.”

Nate Smith to drop sophomore album ‘California Gold’

Nate Smith will release his sophomore album, California Gold, on Oct. 4, featuring the new track “Fix What You Didn’t Break.”

Says Smith the new single: “I’ve always been a huge fan of big epic pop-rock songs of the 2000s. Bands like Lifehouse, Goo Goo Dolls, 3 Doors Down were all influences in my early teens. ‘Fix What You Didn’t Break,’ to me, feels like the perfect blend of 2000s rock and heartfelt country. I want to make love songs that cut deep but are still tough. I teamed up with the same crew that wrote ‘World On Fire’ with me: Ashley Gorley, Lindsay Rimes and Taylor Philips. This is easily one of my favorites that I’ve released. It’s a bit of a theme song for this new project.”

The 16-track album will also include previously-released track “Wish I Never Felt,” collaborations with Avril Lavigne and Alesso, along with the Gold-certified hit song “Bulletproof,” which scored Smith his third consecutive multi-week No. 1 on the Mediabase chart.

Smith also just kicked off the 16-city “Through The Smoke Tour,” which runs until Dec. 5 in Nashville.
