UNLV names former Florida coach Dan Mullen as their new head coach

According to multiple reports, UNLV has hired former Florida and Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen as their new head coach in a five-year deal.  Mullen replaces Barry Odom, who spent the past two seasons with the Rebels before taking the head coach position at Purdue over the weekend. Mullen, 52, has been working as a college football analyst and color commentator for ESPN over the past three seasons.

During his time as head coach with Mississippi State (2009-17) and the Gators (2018-21), Mullen posted a 103-61 record. He was 29-9 during his first three seasons with Florida before being fired with a game remaining in the 2021 season as Florida went 5-6.

UNLV has posted consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 1983-1984, winning 19 games in Odom’s two seasons after winning just 20 games total from 2017 through 2022. The Rebels went 10-3 in 2024 under Odom before he left for Purdue.
