Motörhead launch celebration of 50th anniversary with special events, new vinyl reissues

Motörhead will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2025, and in honor of this historic milestone they plan to drop vinyl reissues of their seminal albums, along with special events taking place throughout the year.

Special half-speed mastered vinyl re-pressings of Overkill, Bomber, and Ace of Spades are due out February 28th, with these limited editions each come on striking colored wax with an exclusive poster. The remainder of the 50th anniversary campaign will take place throughout 2025 and includes events honoring the late Lemmy Kilmister, as well as other content celebrating Motörhead’s enduring legacy — including a just-released HD clip of the band performing its classic cover of “Louie, Louie” on BBC’s Top of the Pops in 1978.

Later this year, on May 8th (“The Eighth of May”) — International Motörhead Day — a special ceremony will take place for the unveiling of a Lemmy statue in his birthplace of Stoke-on-Trent. Guitarist Phil Campbell will be in attendance to lead the festivities and place Lemmy’s ashes at the statue.

Campbell in a press release: “It’s incredible to know that our music, and all it stands for, continues to resonate with so many people. Of course we’re enormously grateful to still be appreciated like we are, and truthfully, the music remains as vital and important as ever because there’s a unique energy and honesty to it that we will all always need.”

Added drummer Mikkey Dee: “It’s a remarkable story, the connection we have with our fans can only be described as family and it’s so exciting to see the family still growing. But it also makes sense, because people know who we are and what the music is about. Motörhead has always stood for doing it OUR way, it’s timeless, and continues to inspire people to take that path.”

Pre-order the new vinyl editions via the band’s online store.

Steve Bannon pleads guilty in “We Build the Wall” donor fraud case

Longtime ally to President Trump, Steve Bannon, pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony fraud for helping to defraud donors who were giving money to “We Build the Wall,” an online fundraiser to build a wall at the southern U.S. border. In exchange for the guilty plea in New York criminal court, Bannon, 71, was sentenced to three years conditional discharge, and waived his right to appeal.

Prosecutor Jeffrey Levinson said in a statement: “The parties have worked out a plea agreement. Mr. Bannon will plead guilty to count 5 of the indictment, which is scheme to defraud in the indictment. He will receive a conditional discharge.” The guilty plea to the felony charge represents Bannon’s second criminal conviction after he served prison time for contempt of Congress.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, Bannon will not be allowed to serve as an officer or director of a charity or any charitable organization in New York state, or any fundraising or not-for-profit organization in New York state. He will not be allowed to receive or hold assets for any charitable organizations. He also cannot be arrested during that time period. If he violates the terms of the deal, he could face between 1 1/3 to 4 years behind bars.

Bannon was charged in September 2022 for his role in the We Build the Wall organization that raised millions for an effort to privately build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.  The group and Bannon were accused of defrauding donors of $15 million in donations.

Bannon spent four months in jail last year after being found guilty of contempt of Congress for refusing to testify before a House select committee investigating the events surrounding the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riots.

NYC Mayor Eric Adams speaks out after Department of Justice orders criminal case dropped against him

New York City Mayor Eric Adams broke his silence on Tuesday, thanking the Justice Department for ordering federal prosecutors to drop the federal corruption case against him, and denying that he broke the law.  Adams was scheduled to stand trial on federal corruption charges starting on April 21.

Adams previously pleaded not guilty to a five-count indictment that accused him of accepting years of luxury travel gifts in exchange for, among other things, persuading the fire department to approve the opening of the new Turkish consulate in Manhattan despite the lingering safety concerns of inspectors.

The DOJ’s directive from Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove directed the acting U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, Danielle Sassoon, that the charges be dismissed without prejudice, suggesting that the that the case was biased, hurt Adams’ re-election bid, and impacted his ability to help the Trump administration crackdown on illegal immigration.

In a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Adams said he “said from the outset, I never broke the law, and I never would.  It is worth repeating the facts, because many sensational and false claims have been made, so let me be clear: I never asked anyone to break the law on my behalf, or on behalf of my campaign. Never. And I absolutely never traded my power as an elected official for any personal benefit.”

Adams thanked President Trump administration’s Justice Department “for its honesty. Now we can put this cruel episode behind us and focus entirely on the future of our city. It’s time to move forward. Despite the fact that I am no longer facing legal questions, I also understand that many New Yorkers will still question my character, and I know that I must continue to regain your trust. I’ve learned a lot over the last year, and this experience has been humbling,” concluding that it has been “the most difficult 15 months of my life.”

On Tuesday, Gov. Kathy Hochul said she “cleaned house and stabilized” city government after the mayor was indicted, and she will continue “working with him. The mayor needs to stay focused on the issues of the city, that has to be his laser focus. And I’m going to continue to make sure that continues to be his focus. It has to be what we are all working towards to protect New Yorkers.”

Los Angeles Angels sign veteran closer Kenley Jansen to 1-year, $10M contract

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal posted on social media that the Los Angeles Angels have signed veteran right-handed reliever Kenley Jansen to a one-year deal worth $10 million (MLB Network’s Jon Heyman was first to report the news).

Jansen, 37, has spent most of his 15-year MLB career in Southern California, with 350 saves over 12 seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2010-2021. Jansen pitched one year for the Atlanta Braves in 2022 and spent the last two seasons with the Boston Red Sox where he logged 27 saves and a 3.29 ERA to go along with 10.2 strikeouts per nine innings.

Jansen enters the 2025 season with 447 career saves (fourth in MLB history) and is only 32 saves away from moving into third place on the all-time list, passing Hall of Fame reliever Lee Smith, who has 478 saves from 1980 to ’97.

Angels pitchers and catchers will report to spring training in Tempe, Ariz., on Tuesday.

New Orleans Saints hire Eagles OC Kellen Moore as their new head coach

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that the New Orleans Saints have hired former Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as their 12th full-time head coach in franchise history. The moves comes just two days after Moore helped bring the Philadelphia Eagles a 40–22 Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs at Caesars Superdome on Sunday.

New Orleans fired coach Dennis Allen on Nov. 4 after suffering seven straight losses. Special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi took over as the interim head coach in Week 10 and led the Saints to three wins in eight games the rest of the way to finish with a 5–12 record—the franchise’s first last-place finish in the NFC South since 2008.

Moore, who appeared in three games at quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys in 2015, began his coaching career with Dallas as the quarterbacks coach in ’18. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in ’19 and spent four years there before serving the same role with the Los Angeles Chargers in ’23 and the Eagles in ’24.
