2 charged, including victim’s husband, in stabbing death of Fort Campbell soldier in Tennessee

Two people have been charged in connection to last year’s stabbing death of U.S. Army Private First Class Katia Dueñas Aguilar, 23.

Per CNN, Sofia Rodas, 35, has been charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence in the death of Aguilar, the Clarksville Police Department said in a news release.  In addition, Aguilar’s husband, 40-year-old Reynaldo Salinas Cruz, was charged with tampering with evidence. Both Rodas and Cruz had been held on unrelated federal charges before they were extradited to Clarksville on Friday and served their sealed indictments at the Montgomery County Jail, according to police.

Aguilar — a private first class who had been stationed at Fort Campbell in Kentucky — was found dead at her home in Clarksville, Tennessee, on May 18, 2024, according to the Clarksville Police Department. She was found with 68 stab wounds, mostly to the neck, according to an autopsy report obtained by Nashville ABC affiliate WKRN. The medical examiner ruled the cause of death a homicide due to sharp-force injuries to the neck.

Police said in a news release that the case remains an open and active investigation: “The successful progression of this case highlights the critical partnership between local law enforcement and military authorities in addressing severe crimes that impact service members and their families.”

Aguilar, of Mesquite, Texas, enlisted in the Army in 2018 before arriving at Fort Campbell, located on the Tennessee-Kentucky border, a year later. She was a member of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division.

Giannis Antetokounmpo out for week with calf strain, will miss NBA All-Star Game

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo will miss the NBA All-Star Game next weekend with a calf strain that has kept him out all week. Antetokounmpo, 30, has missed three games so far with the injury; he has not played since Feb. 2, when he put up 30 points in a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

NBA insider Chris Haynes reported Sunday that Antetokounmpo will be sidelined for two to three weeks with the calf strain, which he sustained before the Bucks’ 112–102 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday. The forward is reportedly expected to return to the court after the All-Star break, with the Bucks’ first gam set to take place on Feb. 20.

Antetokounmpo was selected to Team Chuck (Charles Barkley’s team) for the All-Star game, marking Antetokounmpo’s ninth All-Star selection in 11 seasons. Antetokounmpo earned the most votes in the Eastern Conference, both in terms of player votes and fan votes, on his way to being named an All-Star starter. NBA commissioner Adam Silver will announce a replacement in the coming days for Antetokounmpo.

2025 CMT Awards are canceled amid merger with Paramount

The 2025 CMT Music Awards are officially on pause as Paramount Global continues its merger with Skydance Media. The MTV Europe Music Awards, MTV Millennial Awards and Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Mexico are also affected, adding to other cuts Paramount has made since 2024.

The long-running country music awards — originally called the CMT Flameworthy Video Music Awards – launched in 2002, and has separated itself from other country awards shows by focusing on music videos and allowing fans to vote on the winners.

Paramount executive Bruce Gillmer informed his staff in an internal memo that because of the merger, certain events would be “paused” in 2025:  Team, We want to share some news. We are pausing a few events for 2025, as we look to reimagine and optimize our events slate going forward. These include the MTV EMAs, MTV MIAWs, Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in Mexico, and CMT Music Awards .. Our world-class events remain a key component of Paramount’s music offering as we continue to raise the bar in delivering iconic, unforgettable performances and moments that drive pop culture. We have the best team in the business, and we are grateful for your hard work and dedication in bringing these events to life.  Thank you, Bruce -President, Music, Music Talent, Programming and Events, Media Networks and Chief Content Officer, Music, Paramount+

The 2024 CMT Music Awards took place in Austin, Texas last April hosted by Kelsea Ballerini.  Jelly Roll’s “Need a Favor” video won Video of the Year, one of three awards he’d win that night. Viewership was estimated at 5.4 million viewers on CBS.
