Russell Brand denies new allegations of rape & sexual assault

Russell Brand has addressed the rape and sexual assault allegations made against him. On Friday, April 4, London’s Metropolitan Police charged the 49-year-old actor and comedian with one count of rape, one count of indecent assault, one count of oral rape and two counts of sexual assault (per a news release).

The charges, which are related to four separate women dating back to 1999, and follows an investigation that started in 2023. According to Deadline, Brand allegedly “raped a woman in Bournemouth in 1999, indecently assaulted a woman in 2001 in Westminster, London, orally raped and sexually assaulted a woman in Westminster in 2004, and between 2004 and 2005 sexually assaulted a woman, also in Westminster.”

Brand was previously accused of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse by four women in September 2023, and was sued by another woman a few months later. He also denied those allegations at the time.

After news broke of the new charges against him, Russell released a new video on X denying the allegations: “We’re very fortunate in a way to live in a time when there’s so little trust in the British government. We’re very fortunate, I suppose, that this is happening at a time where we know that the law has become a kind of weapon to be used against people, institutions and sometimes entire nations that will not accept and tolerate levels of corruption around precedent, and I’m speaking particularly to those of you in the UK,” he started off the minute and a half-long video. “How do you feel about your legal system right now? How do you feel about some of the high profile cases that are not being pursued or prosecuted?”

“When I was young and single, before I had my wife and family, I was a fool, I was a fool before I lived in the light of the lord. I was a drug addict, sex addict and an imbecile,” he continued. “But what I never was a rapist. I’ve never engaged in non-consensual activity. I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes.”  He then concluded the video by thanking those who have supported him.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs faces additional sexual assault charges in new superseding indictment

Prosecutors have filed a new and third indictment against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. The additional counts relate to an individual identified as Victim-2, bringing the total number of counts facing Combs to five.

The new indictment against Combs adds an additional charge of sex trafficking and an additional charge of transportation to engage in prostitution, with Combs potentially receiving additional prison time if convicted .In addition to the extra counts, federal prosecutors updated the language of the racketeering conspiracy charge Combs faces, clarifying that “Combs kidnapped and carried and displayed a firearm to female victim, and that the defendant dangled a female victim over an apartment balcony.”

Combs’ legal team issued this response to the superseding indictment: “These are not new allegations or new accusers. These are the same individuals, former long-term girlfriends, who were involved in consensual relationships. This was their private sex life, defined by consent, not coercion.”

Combs was arrested last year after being charged in a sprawling sex trafficking indictment. He has denied all allegations and pleaded not guilty to both previous indictments. Prosecutors said the additional counts and the updated language should not affect the schedule, as they want Combs to be arraigned on the new indictment during the final pretrial conference later this month. His trial is set to start May 5.

Damiano David details debut solo album, shares video for ‘Next Summer’

Måneskin frontman Damiano David is sharing details of his forthcoming debut solo album, Funny Little Fears, dropping on May 16th.

David shared of the upcoming, 14-track LP: “I’ve always been afraid of heights, that any moment the ground breaks apart under my feet and in one second, everything’s gone. I’ve been afraid of darkness, an immensity I don’t get to see or understand, that might take me if I don’t watch my steps. I’ve been afraid of myself, asking for too much, chasing something I didn’t even know if I really wanted. And honestly sometimes I’m still scared, but I wrote myself a manual. Hope u find it helpful too. I called it Funny Little Fears.”

David recently released his latest solo single, “Next Summer,” available now via digital outlets.  David says of the new song: “At first listen, the song speaks about youthful love—an unrequited summer romance. But on a deeper level, it reveals a much larger reflection. It’s an allegory of life—how sometimes we can be prisoners of ourselves, our fears, our insecurities, our inability to change. Our failure to see the world and life from a different perspective in the crucial and defining moments of existence.”

David previously dropped the solo singles “Silverlines” and “Born with a Broken Heart,” and will launch his first solo headlining tour in November, with 33 dates across Europe, Australia, North America, South America and Asia this year.  For ticket info, head HERE.

‘Catastrophic’ flash floods, tornadoes and severe winds cause deaths, damage in South and Midwest

A severe tornado outbreak that began on Wednesday has continued to make its way throughout the South and Midwest, claiming at least seven lives — five in Tennessee, one in Indiana and one in Missouri. Multiple destructive tornadoes (some potentially rated EF3 or stronger) destroyed homes and knocked out power, with dozens of injuries reported.

NBC News reported that there were widespread reports of destroyed buildings, toppled vehicles and downed trees, and more than 247,000 energy customers across the U.S. are without power. Severe weather including tornadoes and large hail is expected throughout the Ozarks, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas.

As of Thursday, potentially catastrophic flooding was the latest warning from forecasters, with heavy rain thought to make travel impossible in some already hard-hit areas. The National Weather Service warned that “life-threatening, catastrophic and potentially historic” flash flooding could occur across the lower Ohio Valley and mid-South; with forecasters warning that communities in areas affected by flooding “should prepare for possible long duration and severe disruptions to daily life,” with 10 to 15 inches of rain expected through the weekend.

More than 90 million people were at some risk of severe weather in a huge part of the nation stretching from Texas to Minnesota and Maine, according to the Oklahoma-based Storm Prediction Center. The Arkansas Division of Emergency Management reported that there was damage in 22 counties due to tornadoes, wind gusts, hail and flash flooding. Additional rounds of heavy rain were expected in parts of Texas, the lower Mississippi Valley and the Ohio Valley from midweek through Saturday. Forecasters warned that they could track over the same areas repeatedly, producing dangerous flash floods.

Philadelphia 76ers Tyrese Maxey to miss remainder of season with finger tendon injury

Philadelphia 76ers star Tyrese Maxey has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a finger tendon injury.

Maxey’s agent, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul, confirmed the news to ESPN’s Shams Charania, who posted on X: “Philadelphia 76ers star Tyrese Maxey is expected to be ruled out for the rest of the season with a finger tendon injury, sources tell ESPN. Maxey has been sidelined since March 3 and has attempted to rehab the finger, but still is dealing with discomfort and needs treatment.”

Charania followed up his post by writing: “The Sixers’ three All-Stars – Joel Embiid, Paul George and Maxey – all ultimately ruled out for the 2024-25 season. Maxey averaged a career-high 26.3 points in 52 games while leading the league at 37.7 minutes a night.”

Maxey has been sidelined since March 3 and is still dealing with discomfort; Sixers coach Nick Nurse had said of a recent workout, “It went just ‘medium.’ It didn’t like ‘Oh, that was great,’ you know? So it’s just medium, but he’s [Maxey] still working.”

In 52 games this season, the 24-year old Maxey has averaged a career-high 26.3 points with 6.1 assists and 3.3 rebounds. He also made his first All-Star team and was the NBA’s Most Improved Player in 2023-24, despite sooting a career-low 43.7% from the floor this season.

FIFA announces that USA will host 2031 Women’s World Cup

FIFA president Gianni Infantino said Thursday at the UEFA Congress in Belgrade that the United States will host the 2031 Women’s World Cup. The USA was the lone bidder for the tournament; they previously hosted the 1999 and 2003 Women’s World Cups.

ESPN’s Emily Keogh reported on Thursdayy that the United Kingdom will host the tournament in 2035 thanks to a joint bid from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The United Kingdom has never hosted a Women’s World Cup.

Infantino said: “As part of the bidding process, we received one bid for ’31 and one bid, valid bid, I should add for ’35. The ’31 bid is from the United States of America and potentially some other Concacaf members together, and the ’36 bid is from Europe from the Home Nations so the path is there for the Women’s World Cup to be taking place in ’31 and ’35 in some great countries and some great nations to boost even more the women’s football movement.“. Infantino also told reporters that FIFA wants to expand the Women’s World Cup field to 48 teams from 32.

English Football Association president Mark Bullingham said in a news release: “As part of the bidding process, we received one bid for ’31 and one bid, valid bid, I should add for ’35. The ’31 bid is from the United States of America and potentially some other Concacaf members together, and the ’36 bid is from Europe from the Home Nations so the path is there for the Women’s World Cup to be taking place in ’31 and ’35 in some great countries and some great nations to boost even more the women’s football movement. We are honored to be the sole bidder for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2035. Hosting England’s first FIFA World Cup since 1966, along with our home nations partners, will be very special. The hard work starts now, to put together the best possible bid by the end of the year.”

U.S. Soccer and the Mexican Football Federation announced last April they withdrew a joint bid to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup to focus on a 2031 bid. That tournament will be held in Brazil. Mexico is expected to be a joint host for the 2031 tournament.
