Florida Panthers beat Edmonton Oilers 6-1 in Game 3 of Stanley Cup Final

The Florida Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers 6-1 in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final at Amerant Bank Arena on Monday. The defending Stanley Cup champions now lead the series 2-1.

Brad Marchand scored for the third straight game, and Sam Bennett scored his NHL-leading 14th goal of the Stanley Cup Playoffs en route to their dominant victory over Edmonton. Sam Reinhart added a goal and assist, and Carter Verhaeghe and Evan Rodrigues each had a goal and an assist for the Panthers; Sergei Bobrovsky made 32 saves.

Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk said after the game: “We played super well and super disciplined, just like a veteran, older team who’s been here. This is our third time at it. We know it’s a series, and we’ve got to stick up for each other, but got to be smart too. I thought it was great that guys were sticking up for each other, and at the end of the day, it’s just a big win and just one game.”

The Panthers and Oilers will meet for Game 4 on Thursday, back at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida.

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland to miss 4-5 months after undergoing toe surgery

Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star guard Darius Garland underwent surgery on Monday to address a lingering injury to his left big toe, which affected his performance during the playoffs.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Nicholas Strasser at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, done in collaboration with Cavaliers team physician Dr. James Rosneck of the Cleveland Clinic and Dr. Bob Anderson of OrthoCarolina, a specialist in foot and ankle injuries. He’s expected to be sidelined for approximately four to five months.

In an official statement, the Cavaliers expressed confidence that Garland will “fully recover and be ready to participate in basketball activities by the start of training camp” in October. However, sources told ESPN that Garland may not be available at the beginning of the regular season.

The 24-year-old Garland missed the final two games of the regular season before aggravating the injury in the Cavs’ opening-round playoff series against the Miami Heat. He ultimately sat out four postseason games, but returned later in the playoffs during Cleveland’s matchup with the Indiana Pacers – where he was clearly hampered by the injury.

Garland became one of only two players—alongside Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokić—to average at least 20 points, 5 assists, and shoot 40% from beyond the arc this season. He also knocked down 212 three-pointers, the third-highest single-season total in Cavaliers history.

Netflix’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’ miniseries to star Emma Corrin, Jack Lowden

Netflix has greenlit a six-episode limited series based on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

Emma Corrin, Jack Lowden and Olivia Colman are set to play lead roles in the series, which comes from writer Dolly Alderton and director Euros Lyn. BBC Studios’ Lookout Point is producing the series, which is set to begin filming later this year in the U.K.

Alderton said in a statement: “Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it. Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy — it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life. With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favourite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy.”

Corrin will play Elizabeth Bennet, the intelligent and unconventional second daughter of the Bennet family; Lowden plays Mr. Darcy, the wealthy, gruff member of the gentry whose romance with Elizabeth fuels the story; and Colman plays Mrs. Bennet, Elizabeth’s mother.

Corrin said: “Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honor. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”
