Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan agrees to multi-year contract contract extension

The Chicago Bulls and head coach Billy Donovan have agreed to a multi-year contract extension.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported “Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan has signed a multiyear contract extension with the franchise, sources tell ESPN. Donovan is viewed as a leader within the Bulls organization, and will enter his sixth season in Chicago in 2025-26 with 800 NBA games coached over his career.”

Donovan joined the Bulls in September 2020 after a successful tenure with the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he consistently led them to post-season appearances.  Under Donovan’s leadership, the Thunder achieved a 243-157 record and made it to the play-offs every season.

With the Bulls, Donovan holds a 195-205 record and only one play-off appearance. Donovan finished his fifth season with Chicago with a 39-43 record and a No. 9 seed in the Eastern Conference. That qualified the Bulls for the play-in tournament, where they lost to the Miami Heat, 112-91. Overall in his NBA career, including five seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Donovan has a 438-362 record.

Before his NBA career, Donovan was an assistant in Lexington from 1989-94 under then-head coach Rick Pitino. He became the head coach at the University of Florida, where he advanced to four Final Fours over 19 seasons and won consecutive national championships in 2006 and 2007.  This fall, Donovan will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame based on his accomplishments as a college basketball coach.

Kameron Marlowe shares video for the single ‘Seventeen’

Kameron Marlowe has released the new single “Seventeen,” written by Marlowe, Tucker Beathard, Austin Goodloe, and Joybeth Taylor – with an additional credit to Bruce Springsteen, whose classic hit “Born In The U.S.A.” is briefly mentioned in the opening verse.

Marlowe says of the track: “One of my favorite things about music is how it can transport you to a specific time and place. We wrote ‘Seventeen,’ about that feeling you have when you’re young and on top of the world. I spent my summers listening to music on the lake with my friends, getting into trouble and making some of the best memories of my life. I hope this song takes you back there with us.”

The official music video for “Seventeen,” directed by Matt Paskert, was filmed at a lake house in Joelton, TN. The clip features a group of old friends, flashing back and forth between the playful antics of their teenage years to present day reminiscence around a back porch card table.

Marlowe adds: “I’ve been really inspired this year. Coming off of the Sad Songs For the Soul project, we just wanted to shake it up and have fun. This song feels like summer to me, and it feels like we’re about to have a big one – can’t wait to play these shows for y’all.”

Watch Killswitch Engage’s video for ‘Aftermath’

Killswitch Engage has premiered the video for “Aftermath,” a track off the band’s new album, This Consequence.

The video was produced and directed by Good Eye: Music Visuals, documents the environmental damage done to the Earth, and encourages listeners to volunteer their time and effort to help out.

Frontman Jesse Leach shares of the track: “‘Aftermath’ is a song about the realization of a tragic event or a war, and the strength it takes to rebuild and the hindsight of the loss, betrayal, and madness that transpired while going through it all. I think we can all relate to this in one way or another. We see daily the tragedies of humanity as well as the destruction of a place we call home. We have taken so much from our planet and ripped the scales in the incorrect direction .. This song is not just a desperate song with a sense of sadness and anger – it is a call to arms. I’m urging my fellow humans to rise above the helplessness and despair. I want people to see we need to put one foot in front of the other and start to rebuild our lives. Be it from an abusive relationship, a financial hardship, a death of a loved one, or mourning yet another disaster unleashed upon the natural world m.. We all have power to create change. To me, this works perfectly with the various organizations we partnered with for this video. We all have a responsibility to the amazing place we call home. All of us can make a difference big or small by just contributing to righting the wrongs and repairing the damage we have inflicted on our planet. Our hope is to inspire others to help contribute to keeping our home safe and clean for future generations. It starts right here and right now with us.”

The band also just wrapped up the Summer of Loud tour with Beartooth, I Prevail and Parkway Drive, which hit cities across North America including West Palm Beach, Dallas, San Diego, Toronto, Denver, and more.

Chappell Roan announces U.S. pop-up concerts in three cities this fall

Chappell Roan has announced a string of pop-up tour dates set to take place in three notable cities: New York, NY, Kansas City, MO, and Los Angeles, CA.

The pop-up dates are being billed as part of Roan’s ongoing Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things tour, which began with a pair of overseas festival dates in late May and early June and continued with headlining dates around Europe through August 2025.

The pop-up dates begin with four nights at Forest Hills Stadium in Forest Hills, NY on September 20th, 21st, 23rd, and 24th.  Chappell will head back to her home state of Missouri for a pair of performances in Kansas City at the Museum and Memorial Park on October 3rd/4th, before heading west for a two-night stint at Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA on October 10th/1th.

Roan said in a statement: “I am sooo excited to bring Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things to New York, Kansas City, and Los Angeles!!! I love these three cities so much and wanted the chance to do something special for them this year. Since I started performing, I have always wanted my shows to be a party that everyone is invited to, and the only way to do that is to keep ticket prices affordable and away from scalpers. The Fair AXS ticketing process for these shows is one measure we are taking to ensure tickets end up in the hands of fans who actually want to be there. With these shows we’re also giving $1 per ticket to organizations that provide resources and support for trans youth <3 It is so important that I give back to the Trans community as they have given me so much throughout my entire career.”

The announcement follows the March release of Roan’s country-tingled single “The Giver,” and the singer is also expected to drop her next single, “The Subway,” on August 1.

Registration for ticket access is currently underway. Fans will be picked at random between Tuesday, August 5-Thursday, August 7 for a chance to purchase up to 4 tickets. Roan also partnered with Cash App and Visa to offer Cash App Visa Cardholders a discount on ticket purchases. Those who use the card at checkout will receive 15% off, which be credited back to their Cash App balance.

Judge rules that man accused of assassination attempt on Pres. Trump can represent himself at trial

A federal judge ruled Thursday that the man charged with trying to assassinate President Donald Trump last year at a golf course in South Florida can represent himself during his trial. U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon signed off on a request from the suspect, Ryan Routh, asking to represent himself during his trial. Cannon however added that court-appointed attorneys need to remain as standby counsel. The move comes after federal public defenders had asked to be taken off the case earlier this week, saying Routh had refused repeated attempts to meet with them.

Routh, 59, is scheduled to stand trial in September, a year after prosecutors say a U.S. Secret Service agent thwarted his attempt to shoot Mr. Trump as he played golf at Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, FL. Prosecutors say that Routh methodically plotted to kill Mr. Trump for weeks before aiming a rifle through the shrubbery as Mr. Trump played golf on Sept. 15. A Secret Service agent spotted Routh before Mr. Trump came into view. Officials said Routh aimed his rifle at the agent, who opened fire, causing Routh to drop his weapon and flee without firing a shot. According to Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, Routh was armed with an AK-47-style rifle and was allegedly 300-500 yards away from Mr. Trump when the Secret Service agent spotted his rifle in the tree line.

In a June 29 letter to Judge Cannon, Routh said that he and his attorneys were “a million miles apart” and that they were refusing to answer his questions. He also suggested in the same letter that he could be used in a prisoner exchange with Iran, China, North Korea or Russia: “I could die being of some use and save all this court mess, but no one acts; perhaps you have the power to trade me away,” he wrote.

The federal public defender’s office filed a motion for termination of appointment of counsel on Wednesday, saying “the attorney-client relationship is irreconcilably broken,” and that Routh refused six attempts to meet with their team, including a scheduled in-person meeting Tuesday morning at the federal detention center in Miami: “It is clear that Mr. Routh wishes to represent himself, and he is within his Constitutional rights to make such a demand,” the motion said.

Routh has pleaded not guilty to charges of attempting to assassinate a major presidential candidate, assaulting a federal officer and several firearm violations. He has also pleaded not guilty to state charges of terrorism and attempted murder.
