Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham ruled out of game vs. Connecticut Sun with knee injury

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham was taken out of Sunday’s game against the Connecticut Sun with a knee injury during the second quarter of Indiana’s 99-93 overtime victory.Cunningham’s injury is the latest for the Fever, who have lost most of their guards due to injury.

Cunningham rotated over on defense along the baseline to cut off Sun guard Bria Hartley, who attempted a pass to the corner. The ball was intercepted by Lexie Hull, but in the aftermath, Hartley lost her balance and tumbled into Cunningham’s right leg. Cunningham instantly went down, clutching her knee in clear pain. Medical staff from the Fever rushed onto the court while her teammates and coaches gathered closely around her. After a quick evaluation, she was assisted to her feet and guided back to the locker room.

Cunningham was traded to the Fever in the offseason after spending her first six seasons with the Phoenix Mercury. Since the All-Star break, Cunningham was averaging 12.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals on 55.1/52.8/90.9 shooting splits.

As of press time there was no diagnosis or a timeline for Cunningham’s return; she previously missed five games this season due to ankle injuries in May and June. The injury-plagued Fever has also seen Caitlin Clark missing most of the season with a groin injury, and their other two point guards — Aari McDonald and veteran Sydney Colson — both suffered season-ending injuries in a loss to the Phoenix Mercury earlier this month (Colson suffered an ACL tear, while McDonald was injured with a broken bone in her foot). The Fever signed veteran guard Odyssey Sims last week to a hardship contract to help replenish their point guard depth, who made her first start for Indiana on Sunday.

Boston Red Sox rookie Marcelo Mayer to undergo season-ending wrist surgery

Boston Red Sox rookie infielder Marcelo Mayer will undergo season-ending surgery on his right wrist.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced the news on Sunday that Mayer, 22, will be sidelined for three months following the surgery, but is expected to be ready for spring training in 2026.

The rookie had been on the injured list since July 25 with a sprained right wrist (which was previously injured in 2022), which he sustained while swinging and missing at a slider in a July 23 game versus the Philadelphia Phillies and pitcher Jesús Luzardo. He received an anti-inflammation injection for the injury Aug. 2; however, the treatment didn’t work as quickly as the Red Sox hoped and Mayer wasn’t able to resume baseball activities.

Mayer said Sunday: “I knew definitely that it [surgery] was going to be on the table. As an athlete and somebody that loves this game so much, all I want to do is play and be out there every single day, especially when you’re in the big leagues and the playoffs are so important. The way that my wrist is right now, there’s just no way to come back and play. It made the decision pretty easy to have the surgery.”

Mayer was called up on May 25 after Alex Bregman went on the IL with a right quad strain. The 2021 first-round pick (No. 4 overall) is a natural shortstop, however, he mostly played third base and some second base in the 44 games he played. His rookie season now prematurely ends with a .228/.272/.402 slash average with eight doubles, four home runs and 10 RBIs.

Wolf Alice share the video for ‘The Sofa’ off new album

Wolf Alice have shared the video for their new single ‘The Sofa’ which is taken from the north London quartet’s album, ‘The Clearing’, set for release on Friday, August 22.

Discussing the song, Rowsell said it was about “not trying so hard to figure everything out, as well as reflecting on ageing and attempting to get to grips with “things that have or haven’t happened in your life .. It’s also about trying to get to grips with the polarising aspects of one’s life when you’re in a band. You’ve just played a huge tour – and you come home, and you have your dinner on the sofa. For me, it’s summed up in how I treat TV. I used to never watch the same thing twice because I thought I’ve got so much to discover! And now I’m like, It’s okay if I just want to rewatch Peep Show for the thirteenth time.”

The accompanying video was shot by Fiona Jane Burgess, and sees the band in their native North London as Rowsell is transported on a surrealist fantasy, having never left the comfort of her sofa. See the video for The SofaHERE.

Wolf Alice are set to hit the road on a headlining tour of the UK and Ireland in support of their new record; for info head HERE.

‘Golden’ from Netflix’s ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ hits No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100

KPop Demon Hunters‘ breakout hit “Golden” has topped the Billboard Hot 100 this week, the latest success for the movie and soundtrack since its release on Netflix in June. The animated feature has shot to the No. 4 spot on Netflix’s most popular English-language films list with 158.8 million views, according to data released by the streaming service.

“Golden,” performed by the Netflix film’s fictional protagonist group Huntrix, is topping the chart seven weeks after it first debuted at No. 81 at the beginning of July. “Golden” took the top spot with 31.7 million streams, 7,000 sales and 8.4 million radio airplay impressions, per Billboard.

“Golden” is the biggest song from the ‘Demon Hunters’ soundtrack so far — Saja Boys track “Your Idol” came in at No. 8.  Last week, the Demon Hunters soundtrack holds six of the top 10 songs on Spotify’s U.S. 50 chart, and four of the top five. “Your Idol” and “Soda Pop” took the No. 2 and No. 4 slots there, while “How It’s Done,” “What It Sounds Like” and “Takedown” took fifth, eighth and 10th, respectively.

Elsewhere on the Billboard 100, Chappell Roan debuted at No. 3 last week with her latest single, “The Subway,” her second Top 5 debut following “The Giver” back in March.  Morgan Wallen and Tate McRae’s “What I Want” and Justin Bieber’s “Daisies” rounded out the top five.
