White House releases proposal for peace in Gaza during Pres. Trump’s meeting with Israeli PM Netanyahu

President Donald Trump met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday to discuss a peace deal to end to Israel’s offensive in Gaza, and free hostages still held in the area.

Shortly before their meeting, the White House released the president’s plan to end the Israel-Hamas conflict, which Netanyahu said he supported; Trump said Hamas has yet to agree. The 20-point plan to end the war begins with an immediate ceasefire and proposes Hamas release all of the hostages within 72 hours in exchange for a phased withdrawal of Israeli troops with the aim of a permanent ceasefire, according to the White House.

In a lengthy document titled “President Donald J. Trump’s comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict,” the plan stated that Trump will head a “Board of Peace,” an international transitional body that would oversee a temporary committee governing Gaza. The transitional governance of Gaza, responsible for the day-to-day running of services, would be made up of Palestinians and international experts, with oversight and supervision by an international, transitional “Board of Peace.” The board would be chaired by Trump, with other members and heads of state to be announced, including former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The proposal further stated that: “Gaza will be governed under the temporary transitional governance of a technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee, responsible for delivering the day-to-day running of public services and municipalities for the people in Gaza.”  This body, the document says, “will set the framework and handle the funding for the redevelopment of Gaza until such time as the Palestinian Authority has completed its reform program, as outlined in various proposals, including President Trump’s peace plan in 2020 and the Saudi-French proposal, and can securely and effectively take back control of Gaza.”

Under the plan – as long as all parties accept it — “the war will immediately end,” and Israeli forces will withdraw to the agreed upon line for the release of hostages. The document also says Gaza will be “developed for the benefit of the people of Gaza.” The Trump administration proposal also says Israel “will not occupy or annex Gaza.”

After his meeting Netanyahu at the White House on Monday, Trump touted the peace deal. He added, however, that Israel would have the “full backing” of the U.S. to destroy Hamas if the plan falls through. Trump said in remarks: “I think we are very close,” but if Hamas fails to agree to the plan, the president said Israel could continue its campaign.  The president told Netanyahu “you would have our full backing to do what you would have to do .. Everyone understands that the ultimate result must be the elimination of any danger posed in the region, and that danger is caused by Hamas.”

Netanyahu said after their meeting that Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza is a “critical step” to ending the conflict. Netanyahu said to Trump: “I support your plan to end the war in Gaza, which achieves our war aims. It will bring back to Israel all our hostages, dismantle Hamas’ military capabilities, end its political rule, and ensure that Gaza never again poses a threat to Israel .. I believe that today we’re taking a critical step toward both ending the war in Gaza and setting the stage for dramatically advancing peace in the Middle East.”  Netanyahu also said of Trump: “you’ve proven time and again what I’ve said many times — you are the greatest friend Israel has ever had in the White House. When our two countries stand shoulder to shoulder, we achieve the impossible.” Netanyahu said if Hamas agrees to the plan, the “first step” will be a “modest withdrawal” from Gaza and the “release of all our hostages within 72 hours.”

Cleveland Browns acquire offensive tackle Cam Robinson from the Houston Texans

The Cleveland Browns are acquiring Houston Texans offensive tackle Cam Robinson in exchange for a 2027 late-round draft pick swap, ESPN’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported on Monday. The Browns lost offensive tackle Dawand Jones this year to a season-ending knee injury on Sept. 22, after Cleveland beat the Green Bay Packers 13-10.

Robinson, 29, is in his ninth NFL season, starting in Jacksonville after the Jaguars selected the ex-Alabama star with the No. 34 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.  The Jaguars traded him and a 2026 conditional seventh-round draft pick to the Minnesota Vikings last October, in exchange for a 2026 conditional fifth-round draft choice. Robinson went on to sign a one-year, $12 million contract ($10.75 million guaranteed) with Houston last offseason.

Pelissero elaborated on X: “This marks the second straight year that Cam Robinson has been traded midseason to a team that just lost a left tackle to injury. Last year, it was from the #Jaguars to the #Vikings. This year, it’s from the #Texans to the #Browns, who play Minnesota on Sunday in London.”

Robinson started the season opener for the Texans, who lost 14-9 against the Los Angeles Rams. Over the following two weeks he was inactive, with Houston benching him for rookie left tackle Aireontae Ersery.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz also reported: “Cam Robinson wants to play LT and he never really got a serious chance at doing that with the #Texans, especially with the organization preferring to go young at the position. The #Browns had a glaring need at LT and they make the trade for the respected veteran.”

ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi added: “Cam Robinson has 102 start since entering the league in 2017. He’s almost exclusively been a LT and has graded out as a much better pass blocker than run blocker. Backups KT Leveston and Cornelius Lucas have graded out as two of the worst tackles in PBWR filling in for Dawand Jones and Jack Conklin.”

Robinson will make his first start for the Browns on Sunday, when Cleveland faces the Vikings in London (9:30 a.m. ET.).

San Francisco Giants fire manager Bob Melvin after two season

The San Francisco Giants have fired manager Bob Melvin, parting ways with Melvin after two seasons at the helm — and missing the playoffs for a fourth straight season.

Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey said in a statement: “After meeting with ownership, I met with Bob today to inform him of my decision. On behalf of the organization, I want to express my appreciation to Bob for his dedication, professionalism, and class. I wish him all the best … After careful evaluation, we determined that making a change in leadership was in the best interest of the team. The last couple of months have been both disappointing and frustrating for all of us, and we did not perform up to our standards. We now turn our focus to identifying a new leader to guide us forward.”

Melvin, 63, left the San Diego Padres to return home to the Bay Area after being hired ahead of the 2024 MLB season to get the Giants back on track after missing the post season for two years at that time.  However under the veteran manager, the Giants underperformed with his tenure ending at 161-163.

Third baseman Matt Chapman, who also played for Melvin with Oakland, said at the season’s end: “You know how I feel about BoMel, I loved him. He’s been my manager for I guess seven years.  I feel extremely grateful that I get to play for him and he’s the same guy every day. He’s been steady for us, he’s always honest with the players, he has our back. He’s done the best with what we’ve given him. The players, a lot of us didn’t play to probably our capabilities.”

Across 22 years as a manager in the major leagues, Melvin has a 1,678-1,588 career regular-season record. He also earned Manager of the Year honored three times on both leagues, and has made eight postseason appearances with Arizona, Seattle, Oakland, San Diego and the Giants.
