Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow leaves Sunday’s game vs. Jaguars with injured toe

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow sustained a left toe injury during Sunday’s matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The injury occurred with 8:36 remaining in the second quarter of Cincinnati’s home opener. Burrow was sacked by Jaguars defensive end Arik Armstead, and as more defenders joined the tackle, the Bengals’ franchise quarterback ended up at the bottom of the pile. He initially tried to limp toward the sideline but collapsed to the turf, prompting trainers to come onto the field.

After several minutes of evaluation inside the team’s medical tent, Burrow headed toward the locker room. He attempted to walk on his own but stopped about 15 yards from the tunnel, where he leaned on two trainers to make it the rest of the way. Footage captured by the Cincinnati Enquirer showed him entering the locker room without his left shoe.

Backup quarterback Jake Browning took over, finishing the first half and opening Cincinnati’s first drive of the third quarter. At halftime, Burrow was listed as questionable to return and remained in the locker room when play resumed.

Now in his sixth NFL season, Burrow has dealt with a series of significant injuries over his career, including season-ending damage to both his knee and wrist. He earned his second Comeback Player of the Year award in 2024 after appearing in all 17 games and leading the league in both passing yards and touchdowns—just one year after undergoing wrist surgery.

UCLA fires head coach DeShaun Foster after winless start to season

UCLA fired football head coach DeShaun Foster on Sunday, after a 0-3 start to the season. The Bruins kicked-off the season with a 43-10 loss Utah at home, followed by back-to-back losses to Mountain West teams. Tim Skipper, who was previously the special assistant to Foster, will serve as the Bruins’ interim head coach for the rest of the season

UCLA athletic director Martin Jarmond said in a statement: “I want to extend my sincere appreciation to DeShaun for his contributions to UCLA Football over the course of many years, first as a Hall of Fame student-athlete, then as an assistant coach and finally as head coach. He was named to this role at a challenging time of year, on the cusp of a move to a new conference, and he embraced it, putting his heart into moving the program forward. His legacy and love for this university are firmly established. He is a Bruin for life, and we wish him, his wife, Charity, and their family the best.” The school also announced on Sunday that it will honor the terms of Foster’s contract, which includes a buyout that will owe him more than $5 million.

Foster is a former All-American running back for the Bruins, who was in his second year as the Bruins’ coach, going 5-10 during his tenure. He led the team to a 5-7 record last season, before the disappointing 0-3 start to this season. After the Week 1 loss to Utah, the Bruins suffered a 30-23 loss to UNLV in Las Vegas, and a shocking 35-10 defeat Saturday against the New Mexico Lobos.

Foster said in a statement: “Serving as the head coach at UCLA, my beloved alma mater, has been the honor of a lifetime. While I am deeply disappointed that we were unable to achieve the success that our players, fans, and university deserve, I am grateful for the opportunity to have led this program.”

FBI release video, images of person of interest amid manhunt for Charlie Kirk’s killer

The FBI announced it is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the person responsible for the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the founder of the conservative youth activist organization Turning Point USA, during an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.

Authorities also released images of a person of interest sought in connection with the fatal shooting of Kirk, as the manhunt for the suspect (who is believed to be college-aged) continues. Officials said during press conference on Thursday that they are working “around the clock” to locate the individual.

The FBI’s Salt Lake City office said on X while sharing two images of the individual: “we are asking for the public’s help identifying this person of interest in connection with the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University.”  The images, which show a man wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses.

Officials also released a new video on Thursday evening, which was played during a news conference with state and federal officials, of the person of interest. In the latest video, the suspected gunman can be seen climbing down from the roof of a building on the campus of Utah Valley University where authorities believe he fired the fatal shot and fled rom the scene. Authorities said they have received more than 7,000 tips and leads and completed some 200 interviews.

Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason said on Thursday that officials said they have been able to track the movements of the shooter and have video footage of the individual. The suspect is said to have arrived Wednesday at 11:52 a.m. on the Orem campus, and then proceeded to travel through the stairwells up to the roof of a building near the where the outdoors event was taking place, before the suspect fired down at Kirk – who was hit by a single shot at approximately 12:20 p.m. and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

After the shooting, the suspect traveled to the other side of building, jumped off and fled off-campus into a neighborhood.  The FBI stated it has recovered what is believed to be the weapon used in the deadly shooting. According to Salt Lake City FBI Special Agent Robert Bohls, a “high-powered bolt action rifle” was recovered in a wooded area near where the shooting took place.   The rifle is an older model imported Mauser .30-06 caliber bolt action rifle wrapped in a towel. The location of the firearm appears to match the suspect’s route of travel, officials said.  he spent cartridge was still chambered and three unspent cartridges contained wording on them expressing what some law enforcement officials described as “transgender and anti-fascist” writing.  The firearm and ammunition have been taken by the FBI for DNA analysis and fingerprint impressions.

The FBI asked for tips from the public as the manhunt for the perpetrator continues, urging anyone with information, photos or video from the incident to share it with investigators by calling the FBI (1-800-CALL-FBI) or submitting images and videos to fbi.gov/utahvalleyshooting.
