Sublime release video for “Ensenada,” first new song with Jakob Nowell

Sublime has released the single “Ensenada” which marks the first new original song with Jakob Nowell on lead vocals — having assumed lead duties for the project in memory of his late father, Bradley Nowell.

A social media post reads: “The Wait is Over ☀ “Ensenada”— brand new music from Sublime—is live now. Raw, real, and reckless. I declare you’re stoked 🤙 Listen now at the link in our bio 🔗🏝

“Ensenada” is the first song shared from Sublime’s upcoming studio album, which will be the first full record with Jakob, alongside Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson.

Said Jakob in a statement: “’Ensenada’ and the new music we’re working on is inspired by old Sublime material. You can’t match something from that 90s era – it was such a moment in time. This feels like an epilogue, a thank you to all of the fans and everyone who’s supported Sublime. Our goal with ‘Ensenada’ was not to replicate anything, but from my perspective it’s more like a tribute to my uncles Bud and Eric and the inspiration they give me. It’s organic and we have a good time. We did a bunch of jams, dove into the old catalog, and the more it felt like fun—throwing it all together and seeing what sticks—the more we knew that was the right move. Creating genuine music that reflects your life and times… people tap into that, and then you look around and realize, wow, look at all the love we’ve found.”

Sex Pistols cancel 2025 North American tour due to guitarist’s injury

The Sex Pistols have canceled their 2025 North American tour due to guitarist Steve Jones breaking his wrist. The performances will be postponed and rescheduled once Jones has fully recovered.

The tour was set to be the band’s first extended U.S. run since 2003, and featured original members Jones, Glen Matlock, and Paul Cook, alongside vocalist Frank Carter (in place of frontman John “Johnny Rotten” Lydon). The group was set to perform the iconic 1977 album, Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols, in its entirety and more music in celebration of the band’s 50th anniversary.

Jones said in a statement: “I’ve got some good news and bad news. What do you want first? Okay, the bad news: I’ve broken my wrist, so unfortunately, we won’t be doing any shows for a while. The good news is the surgeon said I will be back playing guitar in the not-too-distant future. The other good news is I’ll be 70 tomorrow! God bless, and God save the wrist.”

The band added: “The performances will be postponed and rescheduled when Steve has fully recovered. Please check local venue websites and our social media for more information. We appreciate your understanding and support.”

See the video for Miley Cyrus’s ‘Walk of Fame’

Miley Cyrus shared the music video for her song “Walk of Fame,” which features Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard.

In the visual, the singer sports a silver mini dress and high-heeled boots as she steps out onto Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. She struts and dances along the stars that line the Walk of Fame as she sings, “I walk the concrete like it’s a stage.”

Miley herself is set to receive her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the coming year; she wrote on social media following the announcement: “When I first came to LA from Nashville as a little girl, my family would stay at a hotel on Hollywood Blvd. I would go on late night walks with my dad when no one would recognize him. We’d have the gift shops to ourselves & buy knock off Oscars and Marilyn Monroe merchandise. To now be cemented on this legendary boulevard, surrounded by the icons who inspired me, feels like a dream. This moment will live forever, thank you to everyone in my life who made it possible. I am grateful to share this star with you.”

Miley’s most recent album Something Beautiful was released May 30, with the visual companion to the album debuting on Disney+ and Hulu over the summer.

Man charged in shooting death of 11-year-old boy playing ‘ding-dong ditch’ prank

Authorities have filed murder charges against a man accused of fatally shooting an 11-year-old boy who had been ringing doorbells with friends as part of a prank.

The suspect, Leon Gonzalo Jr., was arrested and booked at the Harris County Jail on Tuesday morning and charged with one count of murder, according to Harris County court records.

According to the Houston Police Department, the incident happened around 10:55 p.m. on August 30, at a home in the 9700 block of Mimbrough in southeast Houston. Police said a group of children were playing “ding-dong ditch,” a game where kids knock on doors and run away, when someone stepped outside and began firing at them as they scattered.

The victim and at least two of his friends had been going around their neighborhood banging on or kicking doors and running away. Sgt. Michael Cass with the Houston Police Department’s homicide division said that “officers were told the male was ringing doorbells of homes in the area and running away. A witness stated the male was running from a house, after ringing the doorbell, just prior to suffering a gunshot wound. A witness reported that a person came out of the home and started shooting at the kids as they ran down the street. Tragically, one of them—an 11-year-old boy—was hit in the back.”

Cass said the preliminary information indicates that the victims and his friends ran down the street after banging on the suspect’s door. The boy was rushed to a hospital but died from his injuries on Sunday afternoon, with the victim was identified on Tuesday as 11-year-old Julian Guzman; police said the boy lived about a block from the home.

The prank is similar to what’s being dubbed the “door-kicking challenge,” a TikTok trend based on an old prank called “ding dong ditch,” in which groups of kids record videos of themselves kicking and banging on doors of homes and apartments before running away and then posting the videos on social media.

Judge rules Trump’s deployment of troops to Los Angeles was in violation of federal law

A federal judge in California on Tuesday has ruled that the Trump administraion’s decision to deploy 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to Los Angeles in June violated a 19th-century law barring the use of soldiers for civilian law enforcement activities when it mobilized .

In a 52-page ruling, U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer found that the president and his administration breached the Posse Comitatus Act, a statute dating back to the 19th century that prohibits the use of the military for domestic law enforcement.

At the time the troops were dispatched, Trump argued they were needed to safeguard federal buildings and agents during demonstrations sparked by immigration enforcement actions. The deployment led California Gov. Gavin Newsom to seek an injunction limiting federal intervention in the state.

In his written opinion, Breyer noted that both Trump and then–Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had signaled plans to use Guard units in other cities, raising the prospect of what he described as a “national police force with the President as its chief.”  Breyer wrote: “the evidence at trial established that Defendants systematically used armed soldiers (whose identity was often obscured by protective armor) and military vehicles to set up protective perimeters and traffic blockades, engage in crowd control, and otherwise demonstrate a military presence in and around Los Angeles. In short, Defendants violated the Posse Comitatus Act.” While acknowledging that some protesters engaged in violence, Breyer emphasized that the situation did not rise to the level of a rebellion and that civilian law enforcement was capable of maintaining order.

About the Posse Comitatus Act, Breyer wrote, “Nearly 140 years later, Defendants — President Trump, Secretary of Defense Hegseth, and the Department of Defense — deployed the National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles, ostensibly to quell a rebellion and ensure that federal immigration law was enforced. There were indeed protests in Los Angeles, and some individuals engaged in violence. Yet there was no rebellion, nor was civilian law enforcement unable to respond to the protests and enforce the law.”

To prevent more violations of the law in California, Breyer blocked Trump and Hegseth from using troops there for “arrests, apprehensions, searches, seizures, security patrols, traffic control, crowd control, riot control, evidence collection, interrogation, or acting as informants.” Breyer stayed the ruling until Sept. 12 to allow the administration to appeal.

Gov. Newsom praised the ruling in a post on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “DONALD TRUMP LOSES AGAIN. The courts agree — his militarization of our streets and use of the military against U.S. citizens is ILLEGAL.”

Jessica Pegula reaches the US Open semifinals after victory over Barbora Krejčíková

Jessica Pegula has advanced to the U.S. Open semifinals for the second straight year, after defeating Barbora Krejčíková in straight sets on Tuesday, 6-3, 6-3.

Pegula, 31, is seeded fourth at the U.S. Open and aiming for her first Grand Slam championship, and has been dominant throughout her run in Flushing Meadows. She has not lost a set across her first five matches of the tournament. Pegula and No. 8 Amanda Anisimova are the only Americans left in the women’s singles field.

Pegula started strong to jump ahead 3-0 before Krejčíková began to settle in. The Czech player, who owns both French Open and Wimbledon singles titles, managed to close the gap to 4-3. But Pegula quickly reasserted control, closing out the set by taking the final two games.  However in the second set, Krejčíková struggled to find consistency on serve and her difficulties gave Pegula the opportunity to capitalize. Krejčíková managed to win just 43% of points behind her first serve and only 31% on her second, numbers Pegula punished on her way to a comfortable victory.

Pegula said after the match: “I think I’ve been playing some really good tennis I’ve just been playing very solid. I’ve been having very good quick starts, so I really wanted to do that today, especially against someone like (Krejcikova) who’s very dangerous … It’s crazy to look now and think that I’m really comfortable coming out here playing on big courts in big matches on the best court in the world with the craziest crowd against the best players. It’s pretty crazy, and it’s something 10 years ago I never thought I’d be good at this, but I guess I am.”

Pegula will face No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals on Thursday. Sabalenka was set to face Markéta Vondroušová in the quarterfinals on Tuesday evening, but Vondroušová was forced to withdraw from the match after injuring herself in practice. Vondroušová released a statement which read: “I am sorry to announce that I have to withdraw from my quarterfinal match this evening due to a knee injury. I tried my best to take the court today but during the warm-up I felt again my knee and after consultation with the tournament doctor decided not to risk aggravating the injury. I appreciate all the support this tournament and apologize to the fans who were looking forward to the match. I had an amazing time here in NY and can’t wait to be back next year.”

The New York Giants have named rookie Jaxson Dart as their backup QB over seasoned veteran Jameis Winston, as the team heads into Week 1.

The Giants have since released their unofficial depth chart in advance of Sunday’s 2025 regular season opener against the Washington Commanders, and Dart is listed as No. 2 behind Wilson and ahead Winston.

Dart had a very impressive preseason showing — in three preseason games, Dart, 22, finished 32-of-47 (68.1%) for 372 yards, three touchdown passes and one touchdown run.

The Giants season-opener against the Washington Commanders in Landover, Md., will take place on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

Jake Worthington to release sophomore album “When I Write The Song”

Jake Worthington will release his sophomore album, When I Write The Song, on September 12. The 14-track project, produced by Joey Moi, Jon Randall, and Chuck Ainlay, features collaborations with Miranda Lambert, Marty Stuart, and Mae Estes, and serves as the follow-up to Worthington’s self-titled debut.

Worthington also released the lead single from the upcoming LP, “My Home’s In Oklahoma,” written with Will Banister and Roger Springer. The album also includes “It Ain’t The Whiskey,” “Hello Sh*tty Day” (with Lambert), and “I’m The One” (with Stuart).

Worthington said of the new album “This record is about making music that moves you .. This record means to me…it’s a reminder to fight the good fight. I’m a strong believer in ‘do what moves ya.’ Make the kind of music that wrecks your world or picks up all the pieces. If it makes you feel that kind of way, and if that’s what you need, then don’t let anybody or anything change that. That’s what this record is to me.”

Worthington served as support on Zach Top’s Cold Beer & Country Music Tour, as well as Jon Pardi’s Honkytonk Hollywood Tour. Information is available at: jakeworthington.com.
