Tyreek Hill left off Dolphins’ 2025 captains list following controversy last season

For the first time since joining the Miami Dolphins in 2022, star wide receiver Tyreek Hill was not voted to be a captain by his teammates.

The Dolphins revealed their six-player leadership group for 2025 on Monday, naming quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, fullback Alec Ingold, linebacker Jordyn Brooks, center Aaron Brewer, defensive tackle Zach Sieler, and edge rusher Bradley Chubb.

Hill himself suggested this offseason that he likely would not be a captain this year due to his actions at the end of the 2024 regular season, when he removed himself from the finale and hinted after the game that he wanted to play elsewhere. The Dolphins missed the postseason for the first time in Hill’s career, and his comments left his status for 2025 uncertain. Despite that, he remains with the team for a fourth year. Hill never officially requested a trade and ultimately apologized for his comments a month later.

Head coach Mike McDaniel downplayed Hill’s omission when discussing the results of the players’ vote, saying after the captains announcement: “He was an active participator in voting for probably multiple captains that we do have. I think it’s more about the guys that we picked and less about the guys we didn’t, because there are a lot of guys exemplifying tremendous leadership qualities that aren’t a captain of this football team.”

QB Tagovailoa acknowledged that Hill was working to repair relationships inside the locker room but emphasized it would take time to rebuild trust following his postgame remarks. Meanwhile, McDaniel explained that the final selections stood out clearly during the vote: “The disparity between those six vote-getters and everyone else, it was more focused. Those guys were unilaterally voted for. They kind of stood out. There was a big gap. Naturally, I think there’s a lot of players that could do a great job being a captain, but for this team, the players vote for it. With those six standing out so much, that was an easy decision to cut it there.”

Miami finished 8–9 last season, missing the playoffs and posting its first losing record since McDaniel took over as head coach. Tagovailoa also missed six games, and Hill had his least productive season since 2019 – finishing with under 1,000 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Despite that, McDaniel said he was encouraged by the way players approached the captaincy vote this year: “Every team has its own identity. This group was much more unified, and the support for those six players was overwhelming. The clarity of the vote tells me the team understands who they want leading them, and that gives me confidence moving forward.”

Carrie Underwood returns for 13th season of NBC’s ‘Sunday Night Football’

Carrie Underwood is returning to star in the show open for the 13th consecutive season of NBC’s Sunday Night Football, beginning Sept. 7.

Underwood first performed the new show open at The Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas, home of her residency, Reflection — the longest-running Las Vegas residency of any solo female country artist. Underwood shared: “We had a blast shooting the new opening at The Resorts World Theatre again. As always, Tripp and the creative team continue to raise the bar, bringing the high energy and stunning visuals that the Sunday Night Football audience has come to expect year after year. I can’t wait for the world to see it!”

Tripp Dixon, creative director of the SNF show open for each of the past 13 years, said in a statement: “For the 20th season of SNF, we wanted to set the tone for the night by reimagining the anthem sound in a way that plays to Carrie’s powerhouse vocals, while visually creating a seamless blend of stylized shots and behind-the-scenes moments evoking the national roadshow that is Sunday Night Football, week after week in the fall.”

The show open for Sunday Night Football will debut on Sept. 7, with the game featuring the Baltimore Ravens vs. the Buffalo Bills in a rematch of last season’s AFC Divisional Playoff.

Lanie Gardner to release sophomore album ‘Faded Polaroids’

Lanie Gardner is slated to release her sophomore record, Faded Polaroids, on Sept. 5.

Gardner co-wrote all 18-tracks on the album alongside writers including Jesse Frasure, Lori McKenna, Karen Fairchild, Laura Veltz and more. The album was produced by Oscar Charles, Jonathan Singleton, Chris Ganoudis and Don Miggs. To preview the release, Gardner shared the lead single, “High Divin”, which is available to stream: HERE.

Gardner shares of the album: “I created the idea of ‘Faded Polaroids’ using actual polaroids. Some brand new, others nicotine-stained, withered, torn and worn from being passed down through the years. It felt like zooming out on my whole life and finally seeing the bigger picture. These snapshots — these songs — are the most beautiful parts of me. They tell the story of where I come from, who I come from, what I’ve learned and who I’m becoming. I hope these songs encourage people to take the time to make their own version of that too. I think it’s important that we all do.”

Garnder has also shared the deeply personal title track, of which she said: “‘Faded Polaroids’ is the heart of the album. The idea came from going through a box of old photos. How I experience life today is because of those moments. The biggest thing I’ve learned is how important it is to remember. The simple things make you happy, and to understand that, you have to search for yourself.”

See the trailer for Season 5 of ‘Only Murders in the Building’ debuting Sept. 9

The trailer for the fifth season of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building finds true-crime aficionados Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) digging into the death of the building’s doorman, Lester (Teddy Coluca).

Hulu’s official synopsis of Season 5 reads: “After Lester dies under suspicious circumstances, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel refuse to believe it was an accident. Their investigation plunges them into the shadowy corners of New York and beyond — where the trio uncovers a dangerous web of secrets connecting powerful billionaires, old-school mobsters, and the mysterious residents of the Arconia. The trio discovers a deeper divide between their storied city they thought they knew and the new New York evolving around them — one where the old mob fights to hold on as newer, even more dangerous players emerge.”

Michael Cyril Creighton, Meryl Streep, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Nathan Lane and Richard Kind reprise their roles from previous seasons, with new additions to the cast including: Renée Zellweger, Keegan-Michael Key, Christoph Waltz, Logan Lerman, Téa Leoni, Beanie Feldstein, Dianne Wiest and Jermaine Fowler.

Netflix premiering new documentary ‘AKA Charlie Sheen’ on Sept. 10

Charlie Sheen is the subject a new two-part Netflix documentary titled ‘AKA Charlie Sheen,’ directed by Andrew Renzi and premiering Sept. 10th on the streaming service.

In a trailer, Sheen, 59, says: “When you got a lot of shame about a lot of stuff, shame is suffocating. I lit the fuse and my life turned into everything it wasn’t supposed to be. There’s only one person alive that has the answers to so many people’s questions about me.”

The documentary also includes conversations with Sean Penn, ex-wife Denise Richards, Jon Cryer, Chris Tucker, ex-wife Brooke Mueller, Chuck Lorre, Ramon Estevez, Heidi Fleiss and Sheen’s drug dealer. The synopsis reads: “aka Charlie Sheen tracks his upbringing in Malibu to his effortless rise to megastardom — and dramatic fall, all within the public eye. With a stunning clarity earned through seven years of sobriety, Sheen openly speaks about the subjects and events he’s never discussed publicly before … the most outrageous moments of Sheen’s life are revisited with raw emotion and exceptional warmth, painting a portrait of a flawed man whose penchant for self-destruction is ultimately no match for the ferocious love and forgiveness he inspires in those closest to him.”

Sheen had a starring role on the CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men in the 2000s, but was fired from the show in 2011 following a public meltdown and conflict with the series creator, Chuck Lorre.  Sheen and Lorre collaborated years later on the HBO series Bookie.

Daughtry to release ‘Shock to the System (Part Two)’ EP

Daughtry has announced the release of their new EP, Shock to the System (Part Two), available on September 12th. Shock to the System (Part One) saw the band score their first-ever No. 1 at active rock with “Artificial,” followed by another No. 1 with “Pieces.”

Shock to the System (Part Two) features the previously released “THE DAY I DIE,” and the band is also previewing the EP with their latest single “The Bottom” (stream:  HERE).

Chris Daughtry shares: “’Shock to the System’ is about facing the things we’ve ignored and confronting the wake-up calls that force us to go deeper and get honest. These songs unlocked something in me as a writer and a human being. Part Two is the result of that journey.”

Daughtry was on tour this summer with Creed, and is on the road with Seether this fall.

Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham’s album ‘Buckingham Nicks’ to be reissued on vinyl, digital

Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham have confirmed that their 1973 album Buckingham Nicks will finally be reissued on CD and digitally on September 19. The 1973 album, released before Buckingham and Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac in 1974, is the pair’s only studio album as a duo, and has largely unavailable for decades.

Buckingham and Nicks teased the release prior to announcing the news, starting when Nicks shared a social media post in her own handwriting that said “And if you go forward,” and Buckingham posting shortly afterwards that said “I’ll meet you there.” A billboard depicting the two of them from the 1973 album later appeared on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.

The reissue has been sourced from original analog master tapes for its vinyl return,  along with hi-res digital files for its CD and digital release, which was remastered by Chris Bellman. The release will also feature several vinyl color variants — custard available on Amazon, baby pink available at indie stores, Violet available at Books a Million and baby blue available at general retail stores.

Role Model shares video for ‘The Longest Goodbye’ featuring Laufey

Role Model dropped a duet version featuring Icelandic singer Laufey of his song “The Longest Goodbye,” taken from the deluxe edition of his album Kansas Anymore (The Longest Goodbye).

Role Model said of working with Laufey: “I asked her to come sing it on stage during my LA show, and as soon as I heard her sing the first line of the second verse I was like, ‘Oh, we need to record this’. I couldn’t think of a better voice to sing that song. Her voice is timeless, and that was kind of the word of the day when I was originally writing that song last year. I wanted to end the album with a very sonically timeless and classic song, and her voice brought it there for me.”

An official music video for the duet, directed by Neema Sadeghi, is filmed in black-and-white in ‘vintage performance style,’ and sees Tucker Pillsbury and Laufey trading verses with a full band, complete with retro instruments and monochrome styling. Role Model shared in an Instagram Story: “The video is actually us recording the take that we put out. Ain’t no lip-syncing, no match cutting. We put two cameras in there, because we recorded the original version in Noah’s living room with that mic. Miss Laufey was kind enough to come in and do that. Nothing fake about it, because that’s just super vulnerable and raw and honest of us. That’s what music is about.”

Role Model is gearing up for the UK/European leg of his No Place Like Tour (The Longest Goodbye), which kicks off at London’s Eventim Apollo on November 4.   He is also set to perform in New York City as part of the ‘Citi Concert Series’ on “TODAY” on August 29.

Sabrina Carpenter shares Rocky Horror–inspired video for ‘Tears’ featuring Colman Domingo

Sabrina Carpenter’s new video for ‘Tears’ is inspired by the cult classic film ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’, and features Colman Domingo in drag.

In the theatrical video, Carpenter is shown lying in a field after a car crash, only to discover a house in the middle of nowhere. Domingo accompanies Carpenter as she enters new rooms and meets new characters, and the two share a dance break.

‘Tears’ is taken off Carpenter’s seventh album, Man’s Best Friend which features 12 new songs including the lead track, “Manchild.” The singer faced backlash for the album’s suggestive cover art, and while appearing on CBS MORNINGS she said: “Like, y’all need to get out more, I think. I was actually shocked, because I think between me and my friends and my family and the people that I always share my music and my art with first, it just wasn’t even a conversation. It was just, like, it’s perfect. For what, for the what the album is, it’s perfect for, you know, kind of what it represents, and everything about it to me just felt like so opposite of, like, the world ending.”

Carpenter explained there was “a lot of pointing fingers” despite no one having heard the project. “They don’t know me. They don’t know my intentions. They don’t know the stories I’m telling. So, I do, I try to take it with a grain of salt and also know that my fans that know me and know the person behind the music will look at that photo and they know exactly what it is. And people that have no idea who I am absolutely look at that photo and go, like, ‘Where are her parents?’ … My parents actually saw the photo and they loved it.”
