NY Giants rookie RB Cam Skattebo suffers serious ankle injury in loss to Eagles

New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo was carted off the field after suffering a devastating ankle injury during the team’s 38-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. The injury appeared severe and immediately silenced the crowd at MetLife Stadium.

The play occurred midway through the second quarter when Skattebo caught a short pass from quarterback Jaxson Dart. As he was tackled, his leg was trapped underneath him and twisted awkwardly, bending at an unnatural angle. Players from both teams quickly motioned for medical personnel as Skattebo lay on the field in visible pain. Giants teammates gathered around the rookie while trainers placed an air cast on his leg before loading him onto a cart, as he waved to fans while being taken off the field. The team ruled him out before halftime with an ankle injury, though the exact diagnosis has not yet been confirmed. Before exiting the game, Skattebo had tallied three carries for 12 yards and caught an 18-yard touchdown pass, continuing what had been a stellar start to his NFL career.

Skattebo’s injury marks a major setback for one of the league’s breakout rookies. Drafted in the fourth round out of Arizona State, the 22-year-old quickly became one of the Giants’ most dynamic offensive weapons. Over the first seven weeks of the season, Skattebo amassed 587 total yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns, leading all rookies in total yardage and ranking among the top contenders for Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Before joining the NFL, Skattebo enjoyed a decorated college career — he was an All-American at Arizona State, finishing fifth in Heisman Trophy voting after a standout season that saw him become one of the most productive backs in the country. Before transferring to ASU, he dominated at Sacramento State, where he earned FCS All-American honors.

Prior to Sunday’s injury, Skattebo had recorded 398 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the ground, plus 189 receiving yards and one touchdown through the air. His three-touchdown performance against the Eagles on October 9 was a defining moment of what had looked to be a star-making rookie campaign.

With Skattebo sidelined, Tyrone Tracy Jr. is expected to step back into the lead role in the Giants’ backfield — a position he held earlier in the season.

New York Jets legend Nick Mangold dies at 41 after lengthy battle with kidney disease

Former New York Jets star Nick Mangold, one of the most respected centers of his generation, has died at age 41 following complications from kidney disease, the team announced.

Mangold, who spent his entire 11-year NFL career with the Jets, had recently shared that he was undergoing dialysis while awaiting a kidney transplant.  Mangold wrote in a letter to the Jets community last month: “In 2006, I was diagnosed with a genetic defect that has led to chronic kidney disease. I’m undergoing dialysis as we look for a kidney transplant. I always knew this day would come, but I thought I would have more time.”

Jets owner Woody Johnson paid tribute to Mangold, calling him “the heartbeat of our offensive line for a decade and a beloved teammate whose leadership and toughness defined an era of Jets football.” Johnson added that “off the field, Nick’s wit, warmth, and unwavering loyalty made him a cherished member of our extended Jets family. On behalf of the entire Johnson family and the New York Jets organization, we offer our sincere condolences to Jenny, their four children — Matthew, Eloise, Thomas, and Charlotte — as well as to Nick’s extended family, friends, and all who loved him. Nick Mangold will forever be a Jet.”

Jets Vice Chairman Christopher Johnson also reflected on Mangold’s impact, describing him as “the embodiment of consistency, strength, and leadership. For over a decade, he anchored our offensive line with unmatched skill and determination, earning the respect of teammates, opponents, and fans alike. His contributions on the field were extraordinary — but it was his character, humility, and humor off the field that made him unforgettable.”

Mangold was first-round pick out of Ohio State in 2006, who also shared their condolences in a social media statement: “The Ohio State football program is saddened by the news of Nick Mangold’s passing and sends heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.”

Mangold immediately established himself as a cornerstone of the Jets’ offense, staring in all 16 games as a rookie and going on to become one of the most durable and dominant centers in the NFL — missing only four starts during his first ten seasons. Known for his toughness and leadership, Mangold was named to seven Pro Bowls, earned First-Team All-Pro honors twice, and was a Second-Team All-Pro once.

During his time with the Jets, Mangold helped lead the team to three playoff appearances, including back-to-back AFC Championship Games in 2009 and 2010 under head coach Rex Ryan. Reacting to the news of his death on ESPN, Ryan fought back tears while sharing: “It’s brutal, such a great young man. I had the pleasure of coaching him all six years with the Jets. It was obvious I was getting fired and in my last game, Mangold was injured — like, injured. And he comes to me and says ‘I’m playing this game.’ He was going to play for me. He was awesome, and just way too young. I feel so bad for his wife and family.”

Mangold’s dedication and grit made him both a locker-room leader and a fan favorite. After an ankle injury limited him to eight games in 2016, Mangold was released the following offseason and retired from football in 2018. Four years later, in June 2022, he was inducted into the Jets’ Ring of Honor alongside longtime teammates D’Brickashaw Ferguson and Darrelle Revis, cementing his place among franchise greats.

Cole Swindell shares new song “Make Heaven Crowded”

Cole Swindell has released the song “Make Heaven Crowded,” co-written by Swindell, Greylan James, Joel Hutsell, Blake Pendergrass and produced by James and Zach Abend. The track was directly inspired by Erika Kirk’s remarks after her husband, conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, was killed last month.

Swindell shares: “Being a new dad with a fresh perspective on the world, I was inspired by Erika’s [Kirk] speech  A phrase I had heard before, but I hadn’t heard it in a moment like that. It literally stopped me in my tracks and ultimately moved me to write ‘Make Heaven Crowded’. The heartbreak I felt, and still feel, for her and their kids was so heavy, thinking about my wife and baby girl. I knew I had to get those feelings out of my heart and head and down on paper. But when I released a social clip of performing a few of the lyrics, the response was unlike any reaction I’ve ever had to a song. It’s truly amazing what music is able to do, especially when real life inspires it. Writing songs has always been something that has helped me express thoughts and feelings, and I don’t know if folks know how much it helps me when it connects, and I know I am not alone in those same fears and feelings. This may be the most important song of my career, and I’m ok with that.”

Cole added, “To be able to write this song with Joel Hutsell (one of my best friends and longtime guitar player), Greylan James ( co-wrote Forever To Me & Dale Jr.), and Blake Pendergrass is really special. As songwriters, I feel like it’s our job to try to put things into words that could help someone.”

‘Tulsa King’ spinoff ‘NOLA King’ to star Samuel L. Jackson on Paramount+

Paramount+ has officially greenlit “NOLA King,” starring Samuel L. Jackson, a spinoff of its series “Tulsa King” starring Sylvester Stallone.

Jackson will play Russell Lee Washington, Jr., who will first be introduced in Tulsa King Season 3. The character is a prison friend of Dwight Manfredi (Stallone) sent by the Renzetti family to kill Dwight. Instead, Dwight inspires Washington to return to New Orleans after 40 years.

The official logline states: “‘NOLA King’ follows Russell Lee Washington Jr. (Jackson) who, after befriending Dwight Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone) during a ten-year stint in federal prison, is sent to Tulsa by New York’s Renzetti crime family to take Dwight out once and for all. Inspired by what Dwight created in Tulsa and impressed with the possibilities of second chances, Washington returns to New Orleans, the home he abandoned forty-years ago, to rekindle his relationship with his family, friends, and to take control of the city he left behind. In so doing, he incurs the wrath of his former employers in New York, and makes himself vulnerable to old NOLA foes, both criminal and cop.”

Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount Global and president of Showtime/MTV Entertainment, said in a statement: “Samuel L. Jackson brings unparalleled presence and global appeal, making him the perfect choice to maximize the momentum of one of our biggest hits and transform it into a hit franchise. Building on the breakout success of Sylvester Stallone’s ‘Tulsa King,’ audiences will now experience the full force of Jackson’s dynamic, layered performance — supercharging one of Paramount+’s flagship series.”

Stallone said in a statement: “Chris McCarthy came to me with a game-changing idea: to elevate my show beyond a mob boss series, creating a dynamic, family-driven franchise. Sam Jackson is the only choice to anchor this new adventure in NOLA.”

Jackson previously starred in the Apple TV+ limited series The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey and reprised his Marvel role of Nick Fury in the Marvel-Disney+ show Secret Invasion.

“Tulsa King” is slated to premiere in September on Paramount+, with “NOLA King” reportedly planning to begin shooting in early 2026.
