2 men arrested after 11 people are injured in UK train stabbing attack

British authorities have arrested two men following a mass stabbing on a London-bound train that left 11 people injured, two of them critically.

The incident occurred on the evening of November 1 aboard a train traveling from Doncaster, in northern England, to London’s King’s Cross station. At around 7:42 p.m., passengers began calling emergency services to report chaos and screaming as attackers moved through the carriages. The train made an emergency stop in Huntingdon, a market town roughly 75 miles north of London, where police swarmed the scene and arrested two suspects just eight minutes after the first distress calls. Authorities have not disclosed the relationship between the suspects or the type of weapons used. During the initial emergency response, police briefly activated “Plato,” a national protocol for potential terror attacks, but later rescinded it once terrorism was ruled out. (per the BBC.)

Police have ruled out terrorism as a motive as they continue to investigate what led to the violent attack. British Transport Police Superintendent John Loveless confirmed that the suspects—men aged 32 and 35, both born in the U.K.—were taken into custody at separate stations. Loveless said during a press briefing outside Huntingdon Station: “this is a shocking incident and my thoughts are with those who have been injured and their families,” emphasizing  that “there is nothing to suggest this is a terrorist incident” and cautioned that “it would not be appropriate to speculate on the cause.” Authorities have not disclosed the relationship between the suspects or the type of weapons used. During the initial emergency response, police briefly activated “Plato,” a national protocol for potential terror attacks, but later rescinded it once terrorism was ruled out.

Superintendent Loveless said detectives are working “to establish the full circumstances and motivation for this incident,” and that officers will maintain a “high visibility presence of police at stations and on trains” in the coming days to reassure the public.

According to police, ten victims were taken to local hospitals by ambulance, and another person later arrived independently for treatment. Early reports indicated nine people were in life-threatening condition, but that number has since been reduced to two. Four victims have been discharged, while two remain in critical condition.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the stabbing spree “appalling” in a post on X, writing, “My thoughts are with all those affected, and my thanks go to the emergency services for their response. Anyone in the area should follow the advice of the police.”

King Charles III and Queen Camilla said in a statement that they were “shocked to hear of the dreadful knife attack” and extended their sympathies to those affected. Additionally, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood praised the “exceptional bravery of staff and passengers on the train” who risked their safety to protect others.

London North Eastern Railway, which operates the route, warned of major service disruptions through Monday. Huntingdon Station remains closed, though trains are continuing to pass through the area as the investigation continues.

‘Intentional’ explosion at Harvard Medical School building under investigation; police seek two suspects

Authorities are investigating what they describe as an ‘intentional explosion’ that occurred early Saturday morning inside the Goldenson Building on the Harvard Medical School campus in Boston. No injuries have been reported, but officials say the blast appears to have been deliberately set.

The Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) said the incident began around 2:48 a.m. when a fire alarm went off in the Goldenson Building, located at 220 Longwood Avenue. A responding campus police officer arrived moments later and saw two individuals fleeing from the scene. The officer attempted to stop them but was unable to do so. Shortly afterward, the officer discovered evidence of an explosion on the building’s fourth floor.

According to officials, the Boston Fire Department’s arson unit responded to assist and determined that the explosion “appeared to be intentional.” A subsequent sweep of the building by the Boston Police Department found no additional explosive devices.

Investigators from the FBI, Boston Police, and Harvard University Police are now working together to determine who was responsible and what may have motivated the attack. An FBI spokesperson said “we’re assisting our partners at the Harvard University Police Department and we’re going to decline further comment at this time.”

Surveillance footage captured two suspects inside the building prior to the explosion. University police released still images showing the individuals—both appearing to be young men with their faces covered. One suspect was wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt with “NYC” printed on the front, khaki pants, and gray Crocs. The other was dressed in a dark hoodie and dark plaid pajama pants. In other photos released earlier, one appeared to be wearing a balaclava, and the other had their hood raised with a face covering.

The Goldenson Building, which dates back to 1906, is part of Harvard’s medical campus surrounding the HMS Quad Lawn. Officials say the structure has since been deemed safe, and the investigation remains active as federal, state, and local law enforcement continue to gather evidence and review surveillance footage.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspects or the explosion to contact the Harvard University Police Department’s detective bureau at (617) 495-1796.

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud leaves game due to concussion in loss to Broncos

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud was forced to leave Sunday’s 18-15 loss to the Denver Broncos after suffering a concussion early in the second quarter.

The injury occurred when Stroud scrambled for six yards on a third-and-8 play and slid just short of the first-down marker. As he began his slide, Broncos defensive back Kris Abrams-Draine converged on him and delivered a hard shoulder hit to Stroud’s upper body. The back of Stroud’s head struck the turf as a result of the impact, and he remained down for several moments before being tended to by Houston’s medical staff. Team trainers examined Stroud on the field as teammates gathered around, before he was escorted to the blue medical tent before being taken to the locker room for further evaluation. The Texans initially listed him as questionable to return, but ruled Stroud out when the second half began after confirming he had sustained a concussion.

Officials originally threw a flag for unnecessary roughness on the play but later picked it up, determining that Abrams-Draine’s hit had not involved contact with Stroud’s head or neck. Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans, however, disagreed with that decision.  Ryans said after the game: “he hit the quarterback when he’s sliding and giving himself up. If I’m incorrect on the rule, I’ve seen that happen multiple times with our guys, and we get the penalty. But for some reason, it just didn’t happen there. At the end of the day, we lost our starting quarterback because of the play. Anytime you lose your starting quarterback, it’s tough.”

Before exiting, Stroud had completed 6 of 10 passes for 79 yards and helped Houston build a 3-0 lead. Backup Davis Mills entered the game with 13:30 remaining in the first half and finished 17-of-30 for 137 yards. Ryans said: “I thought Davis battled, tried to do a good job there, he battled. But it just didn’t do well offensively once we lost C.J.”

The Texans (3-5) will host the Jacksonville Jaguars next Sunday.

Hellen Obiri breaks course record, Benson Kipruto wins in photo finish at 2025 NYC Marathon

Kenya once again dominated the world’s most iconic road race on Sunday, as Hellen Obiri shattered a decades-old record in the women’s division, and Benson Kipruto edged out a razor-thin victory in the men’s race — marking one of the most dramatic finishes in New York City Marathon history.

Kipruto Wins Closest Men’s Finish Ever

The men’s elite race came down to a photo finish between two Kenyans, with Kipruto, 34, narrowly defeating Alexander Mutiso Munyao by just .16 seconds, with both clocking identical times of 2:08:09 — the closest finish ever recorded in the event’s history. The men’s result marked the first time in race history that either the men’s or women’s elite division was decided by less than a second.  Albert Korir, also from Kenya, took third in 2:08:57, completing a clean sweep of the men’s podium.

The competition remained tight for much of the 26.2-mile course. At the halfway point, several runners were still within striking distance, but in the final miles, Kipruto and Mutiso surged ahead, pulling clear of the pack. With just 800 meters to go, it was still anyone’s race. Mutiso made a powerful late push, but Kipruto managed to cross the line first by the narrowest of margins.

Kipruto now adds another prestigious title to his growing list of victories, having previously won the 2021 Boston Marathon, 2022 Chicago Marathon, and 2024 Tokyo Marathon, as well as earning a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. Mutiso, 29, entered as a top contender after winning the 2024 London Marathon.

Obiri Smashes Course Record, Leading Women’s Kenyan Sweep

In the women’s race, Hellen Obiri delivered a masterclass performance to claim her second New York City Marathon title while obliterating the 22-year-old course record. Obiri crossed the finish line in 2:19:51, breaking Margaret Okayo’s 2003 record of 2:22:31 by nearly two and a half minutes.

As the race entered its final stretch, Obiri, 34, found herself in a tight battle with fellow former champions Sharon Lokedi (2022 winner) and Sheila Chepkirui (2024 winner). With three miles remaining, the trio were stride for stride. Chepkirui eventually fell behind, leaving Obiri and Lokedi to duel for the title. In the final mile, Obiri surged ahead decisively to secure the win and make history. Lokedi finished second in 2:20:07, followed by Chepkirui in 2:20:24—both finishing under the previous course record and completing a Kenyan sweep of the women’s podium.

It’s the first time since 1975 that a single nation has claimed all six podium spots across both men’s and women’s divisions. Back then, American runners dominated when the marathon was still confined to Central Park.

The win for Obiri further cements her legacy as one of the greatest distance runners of her generation. A two-time Boston Marathon champion, she is also a three-time Olympic medalist, earning silver in the 5000m in 2016 and 2020 and bronze in the marathon at the 2024 Games.

American Standouts and Wheelchair Victories

American runner Fiona O’Keeffe, the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials champion, placed fourth in 2:22:49, the fastest ever marathon time by an American woman in New York City. She was followed by Annie Frisbie (2:24:12) and Olympic gold medalist Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands (2:24:43), who impressively returned to competition just weeks after winning the Sydney Marathon.

In the wheelchair division, Susannah Scaroni claimed her third New York City Marathon title, leading a one-two American finish alongside Tatyana McFadden for the second consecutive year. Marcel Hug of Switzerland won the men’s wheelchair race, extending his record with a seventh career victory in New York.

‘Alan Jackson’s Last Call: One More for the Road – The Finale’the final full-length concert of the country legend’s touring career set to take place on Saturday, June 27, 2026 — immediately sold out when pre-sale tickets went on sale in October.
