Authorities share new photos, videos of person of interest as manhunt for Brown University shooter enters third day

Authorities are continuing the manhunt for the gunman in the deadly shooting at Brown University, while investigators disclosed that a previously detained person of interest has been released and the case has shifted direction. Two students were killed and nine others wounded Saturday afternoon when gunfire erupted inside an engineering building during final exams.

On Monday afternoon, Providence Police shared new videos and photos on social media of a new person of interest in the shooting, which show a man dressed in black on Hope and Manning streets and on Benevolent Street. Police state that the images were captured about two hours before Saturday’s shooting: “we are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest in Saturday’s incident at Brown University. Please share these images and direct all tips to 401-272-3121 or at the link HERE. “

Previously released surveillance video shows a suspect dressed in black calmly walking away from the scene. The individual’s face is not visible, and officials have not determined whether the suspect is affiliated with the university. Investigators are also still working to determine how the shooter accessed the first-floor classroom. While the building’s exterior doors were unlocked, rooms used for final exams required badge access.

Providence Police Chief, Col. Oscar L. Perez Jr., said at the news conference that “It’s all hands on deck,” adding that state police and federal agencies are also assisting in the search. Authorities asked people in Rhode Island and beyond to review the new videos and photos and to call police if they have any information.

The FBI announced that they were “offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the individual. Anyone with information please contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (225-5324) or the Providence Police Department at 401-272-3121.”  The FBI also released a description of the suspect, saying the person is “approximately 5’8” with a stocky build.”

Meanwhile, the person of interest that had been taken into custody early Sunday was released later that night after investigators determined there was no legal basis to continue holding them. Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha said evidence that had initially drawn attention to the individual “now points in a different direction … So what that means is that this person of interest needs to be released.”

Brown University posted on X: “Providence police announced late on Sunday night that they have released the individual they had detained in connection with the investigation into the shooting on the Brown campus on Saturday, Dec. 14, which claimed the lives of two Brown students and injured nine others. The Rhode Island Attorney General stated definitively in a news media event hosted by the City of Providence that “there is no basis” to consider the released individual a person of interest. Law enforcement agencies continue to investigate, and local police have advised they do not believe there is any immediate threat to Brown or the local community. We continue to make every effort to ensure the safety and security of the campus. We are also advising every member of the Brown community to be vigilant in their own activities on campus”

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley shared that seven hospitalized victims remain in stable condition, one is in critical condition, and another with minor injuries has been released. He said he has spoken directly with several victims, and added that “this is an incredibly upsetting and emotional time for Providence and Brown — for all of us.”

Brown has canceled all remaining classes and exams for the semester, allowing students to leave campus if they choose. Support services remain available for those who stay, Provost Francis Doyle said: “At this time, it is essential that we focus our efforts on providing care and support to the members of our community as we grapple with the sorrow, fear and anxiety that is impacting all of us right now.”

The two students killed were identified as Muhammad Aziz Umurzakov of Uzbekistan and Ella Cook of Birmingham, Alabama. The Uzbekistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement, “The loss of innocent lives as a result of this tragedy is a heavy loss for all of us.”  Cook was vice president of Brown’s chapter of College Republicans, with her church in Alabama describing her as an “incredible light.” Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., said on X: “I am heartbroken to hear that Mountain Brook’s Ella Cook was among those killed over the weekend at Brown University. Our hearts and our prayers are with the Cook family and everyone impacted by this senseless killing.” In addition, Rep. Katie Britt, R-Ala., said on X: “There are no words that can ease the pain Ella’s family and friends are enduring right now. … Our hearts are breaking for the Cook family.”

Packers pass rusher Micah Parsons confirms torn ACL, will miss remainder of season

The Green Bay Packers will close out the 2025 season without their defensive centerpiece, after star pass rusher Micah Parsons suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during Sunday’s 34-26 loss to the Denver Broncos.

NFL Insider Ian Rapaport reported: “#Packers star Micah Parsons has, in fact, torn his ACL and is out for the 2025 season, the MRI confirmed. He faces a 9 month recovery at least.”

An MRI confirmed the injury, which occurred late in the third quarter on a non-contact play as Parsons was pursuing Broncos quarterback Bo Nix. After bursting past right tackle Mike McGlinchey, Parsons suddenly planted awkwardly, pulled up, and went down clutching his knee. Trainers rushed to his side as players from both teams gathered nearby. He was eventually helped off the field and taken to the locker room, where he was later ruled out.

The injury marks the first major setback of Parsons’ NFL career. Aside from missing four games last season with an ankle issue, he had been remarkably durable since entering the league in 2021.

Parsons is expected to need at least nine months of rehabilitation, which not only ends his current season but could also delay his return at the start of 2026.  Parsons himself addressed the setback Monday with a message on social media, describing the injury as a defining challenge while expressing faith and gratitude for the support he has received: “I may be sidelined, but I am not defeated. This injury is my greatest test—a moment God allowed to strengthen my testimony. I believe He walks with me through this storm and chose me for this fight because He knew my heart could carry it. I’m deeply grateful to the Packers organization and my teammates for their unwavering support, love, and belief in me during this season. I trust His timing, His plan, and His purpose. I will rise again.”

Parsons was acquired from the Dallas Cowboys just weeks before the season in a blockbuster trade that sent defensive lineman Kenny Clark and two first-round picks to Dallas. Green Bay immediately rewarded him with a four-year, $188 million extension that included $136 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in league history. Before Sunday’s injury, Parsons was once again delivering an elite season. He finishes his first year in Green Bay with 12.5 sacks, 39 tackles, 26 quarterback hits, a forced fumble, and a pass breakup. His sack total extends a historic run, making him the first player since sacks became an official statistic in 1982 to open a career with five straight seasons of at least 12.

Parsons’ injury resonated beyond Green Bay’s locker room, drawing reactions from around the league — especially from former Cowboys teammates. Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott said: “I shot him a message before the game telling him to keep his head up. Tough game, tough business. He responded. Great message. Great attitude about it and he’ll attack his rehab.”

Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs echoed that sentiment, saying, “I was devastated. As soon as I seen that happened, I texted him, made sure he was good. That’s my Day 1. That’s my brother and I’ve been though it so I know how he’s feeling right now. I just want him to keep him on y’all’s prayers, make sure he’s prayed up and I’m going to make sure I’m there for him every step of the way, make sure he is good.”

Scottie Scheffler secures fourth straight PGA Tour Player of the Year Honor

Scottie Scheffler was named the 2025 PGA Tour Player of the Year on Monday, earning the Jack Nicklaus Award for a fourth consecutive season. Scheffler edged fellow finalists McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, and Ben Griffin in voting conducted by PGA Tour members who competed in at least 15 events during the season. The Tour also announced that South Africa’s Aldrich Potgieter, 21, won the Arnold Palmer Award as Rookie of the Year. Potgieter captured the Rocket Classic in a playoff and was the only rookie to qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

The world No. 1  ranked Scheffler, 29, became the first player since Tiger Woods to claim the honor four straight times, matching Woods’ run from 1999 to 2003. With four Player of the Year awards, Scheffler now trails only Woods’ 11 all-time wins and moves past Rory McIlroy on the career list.

PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp praised Scheffler’s sustained excellence while announcing the award results: “On behalf of the PGA Tour, congratulations to Scottie Scheffler on being named PGA Tour Player of the Year and Aldrich Potgieter on earning PGA Tour Rookie of the Year honors for 2025. Scottie’s consistent level of success has been nothing short of spectacular as he continues to chase history on the PGA TOUR, and we’re excited to see what he will deliver in 2026.”

Scheffler said during a media call: “I think overall the thing that I’m most proud of when I look at the last couple years is just consistency. It’s not very easy to just show up and finish in the top 10 each week. I think that’s something that is very difficult to do, and something I’m very proud of.”

Despite missing the first month of the season because of a hand injury suffered during a holiday cooking accident, Scheffler quickly reasserted himself, winning six times during the 2025 season — including major victories at the PGA Championship and the Open Championship. He also captured the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, successfully defended his title at the Memorial Tournament, won the BMW Championship during the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and added a fall victory at the Procore Championship. His Open Championship triumph at Royal Portrush completed the third leg of the career Grand Slam, leaving only the U.S. Open between Scheffler and the rare feat.

Scheffler finished the season inside the top 25 in all 20 starts, posted 17 top-10 finishes, and led the Tour in multiple statistical categories. He earned the Byron Nelson Award for lowest scoring average (68.131) for the third straight year and became the first golfer since Woods in 2000 to lead the Tour in scoring average across all four rounds in a single season. Scheffler said: “I don’t necessarily need to look at statistics.  When I look back at this season, I definitely saw an improvement in my putting inside of 15 feet… It really helped me contend in some events where my ball striking wasn’t in the same spot where it was in 2024.”

Since breaking through in 2022, Scheffler has amassed 19 PGA Tour victories, four major championships, and nearly $100 million in career on-course earnings. He will have a chance in 2026 to join golf’s most exclusive club by completing the career Grand Slam with a win at the U.S. Open.

‘General Hospital’ icon Anthony Geary dies at age 78

Television and soap opera icon Anthony Geary has died at the age of 78. Geary passed away on Sunday, December 14 from complications following a planned surgery three days earlier.

Geary played anti-hero Luke Spencer on-and-off for 40 years on ‘General Hospital’ from 1978-2017. The eight-time Daytime Emmy winner (and 16x nominee) appeared in 1,997 episodes of the soap before officially retiring from the role in 2015 (he also made a cameo appearance in an episode in 2017). Geary went on to move to Amsterdam full-time with his husband, Claudio Gama, who were married in 2019.

TV Insider was first to report the news of Geary’s death. The actor got his big break as the iconic Luke Spencer in 1978 on ABC’s long-running soap opera ‘General Hospital,’ changing the face of daytime television forever. The character was originally only supposed to appear on the show for a 13-week stint, but Geary’s immediate popularity and his unique acting style kept him on the show for years. After pairing Geary with Genie Francis’ “Laura,” the couple’s on-screen chemistry and popularity brought the soap opera to immense popularity. The love story of ‘Luke and Laura’, while controversial, became a part of 80s pop culture, with the actors appearing on the cover of Newsweek and the wedding of Luke and Laura become the most-watched episode in soap history, drawing over 30 million viewers – a record that remains until this day.

Geary also made history by winning the Daytime Emmy for ‘Outstanding Lead Actor’ in a Daytime Drama Series eight times – in 1982, 1999, 2000, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2012, and his last in 2015 – the most of any performer.

Just weeks before his death, Geary’s husband, Claudio Gama posted a video showing Geary watching his longtime co-star Genie Francis (Laura) being interviewed by his other former colleague Maurice Benard (Sonny) on Bernard‘s ‘State of Mind’ podcast. Gama wrote in the caption: “It really made Tony very happy. He told me, ‘those are two lovely and talented people, great friends, and I miss them.’”

Gama said in a statement regarding his husband’s passing: “It was a shock for me and our families and our friends. For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband.”
