HBO Max, Paramount+ to combine into one streaming platform with merger

The proposed merger between Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery will have subscribers to Paramount+ and HBO Max seeing those platforms merge into a single direct-to-consumer service.

Paramount CEO David Ellison outlined the plan during a Monday investor call, saying, “As we said, we do plan to put the two services together, which today gives us a little over 200 million direct to consumer subscribers.” He added that the combined scale would strengthen the company’s ability to compete with dominant streaming rivals.

Ellison noted that Paramount is already consolidating Paramount+, Pluto TV and BET+ onto one shared technology platform, with completion expected by mid-2026. He indicated the same strategy would likely apply to HBO Max if the deal closes, emphasizing that expanded content and improved tech capabilities would help the company rival the industry’s largest players.

While the platforms may combine, Ellison stressed that the HBO brand itself would retain creative autonomy under CEO Casey Bloys, whose contract runs through 2027. “Casey and his team do absolutely a remarkable job at HBO,” Ellison said. “Our viewpoint is HBO should stay HBO. They built a phenomenal brand. They are a leader in the space, and we just want them to continue doing more of it. But by bringing the platforms together, all of our content will be able to reach even a broader audience than we can do standalone.” Details about pricing, branding or whether HBO Max would function as a standalone section within the new service have not yet been disclosed.

The merger follows a competitive bidding process. Netflix had previously pursued Warner Bros. Discovery’s assets, but ultimately stepped aside after Paramount increased its offer. Warner Bros. Discovery’s board deemed Paramount’s proposal the superior bid, clearing the path for the planned combination — pending regulatory review.

If approved, the unified platform would immediately rank among the largest streaming services globally, with more than 200 million subscribers, positioning Paramount and HBO to compete more directly with streaming heavyweights.

See the trailer for Netflix’s ‘Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man’

The next chapter of ‘Peaky Blinders’ is officially headed to the big screen. The feature film, titled Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, will arrive in select theaters on March 6, 2026, before launching worldwide on Netflix on March 20.

A social post announced: “Academy Award winner Cillian Murphy returns as the legendary gypsy gangster Tommy Shelby in ‘Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.’ In select theaters March 6 and on Netflix March 20.”

Directed by Tom Harper and written by series creator Steven Knight, the film continues the story following the show’s 2022 finale. Set in Birmingham in 1940 during World War II, the movie brings Tommy Shelby back from self-imposed exile for what’s described as an “epic continuation” of the saga. The official synopsis states: “Birmingham, 1940. Amidst the chaos of WWII, Tommy Shelby is driven back from a self-imposed exile to face his most destructive reckoning yet. With the future of the family and the country at stake, Tommy must face his own demons, and choose whether to confront his legacy, or burn it to the ground.”

Murphy reprises his BAFTA-winning role after portraying Tommy from 2013 to 2022. Joining him are Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Sophie Rundle, Barry Keoghan, Stephen Graham and Jay Lycurgo, along with returning cast members Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee and Ian Peck.

A newly released trailer shows Tommy returning home to find his son overseeing the remnants of his former criminal empire, alongside younger men who appear unfamiliar with the Shelby legacy. A teaser poster features Murphy’s bloodied Tommy on horseback, partially hidden beneath his signature cap against a misty backdrop.

The original Peaky Blinders debuted on BBC Two in 2013 before expanding globally via Netflix. The drama later moved to BBC One and earned a BAFTA for Best Drama Series. The story initially spanned 1919 to 1933.

Looking ahead, two additional six-episode sequel series have been ordered by Netflix and the BBC, set to begin in 1953 and follow the events of the film. Knight and Murphy will serve as executive producers.  In addition, the film’s soundtrack is also rolling out, with the single “Puppet” available now and the full album scheduled for release March 20, the same day the movie begins streaming.

Metallica adds six more dates to ‘Life Burns Faster’ Las Vegas Sphere residency

Metallica has added six more dates to the band’s upcoming Life Burns Faster residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas. The exact dates for the added shows have yet to be announced, but are expected to be revealed during the presales on Wednesday, March 4th for members of the Metallica Fifth Member fan club.

After months of speculation, last week Metallica officially announced its Life Burns Faster residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas. The band originally announced an eight-show run is set for October 1 and 3, 15 and 17, 22 and 24, and 29 and 31, 2026, marking the band’s first performances at the cutting-edge venue — and making them the first hard rock act to headline it.

The Sphere residency will continue the group’s “No Repeat Weekend” format, introduced with their M72 World Tour in 2023. As with that concept, no songs will be duplicated between the Thursday and Saturday shows during each pairing of concerts.

Two-night ‘No Repeat Weekend’ passes and single-night tickets go on sale March 6 at 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET), following a series of presales. For die-hard fans, the all-access option — now dubbed the Full House Ticket (formerly the I Disappear Ticket) — grants entry to every 2026 Sphere performance. Travel packages and upgraded experiences will also be available, including meet-and-greets, onstage photo opportunities, access to the Black Box Experience, early venue entry and spots inside the Snake Pit.

Dave Matthews Band sets 2026 summer tour dates

Dave Matthews Band has unveiled a 35-show American tour running from May through the end of summer, wrapping up with a traditional three-night Labor Day weekend residency at Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington.

The tour kicks off May 8 in The Woodlands, Texas and will move across the country, including stops in cities such as Austin, Texas, Tampa, Florida, Raleigh, North Carolina, Virginia Beach, Virginia, Kansas City, Missouri, Forest Hills, New York, and Hartford, Connecticut.  In addition, several multi-night mini-residencies are also planned in locations including: West Palm Beach, Florida, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Camden, New Jersey, Gilford, New Hampshire, Saratoga Springs, New York, and Greenwood Village, Colorado.

The Gorge residency will feature guest performers across each night: Stephen Wilson Jr and Infinity Song on Friday, Watchhouse and Jonah Kagen on Saturday, and Jesse Welles along with Sierra Hull on Sunday.

Tickets can be purchased via Ticketmaster. The band is continuing its sustainability partnership with Live Nation Entertainment and REVERB (music sustainability organization) to lower the environmental impact of the tour. They also reaffirmed a goal of planting 1 million trees in 2026.

In addition to touring news, the group’s charity division, BAMA Works Fund, announced a donation to the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota following the deaths of Nicole Good and Alex Pretti. The band issued a statement saying, “We are horrified by the images coming out of Minneapolis. It’s hard to watch and hard to believe this is America. There is so much shameful dishonesty coming out of Washington right now, but this much is true: If ICE wasn’t in Minneapolis, Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti would still be alive today. None of this makes sense and it’s incredibly cruel. We must find a better way.”

Megan Moroney’s new album ‘Cloud 9’ debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200

Megan Moroney has reached a major career high as her third studio album, Cloud 9, opens at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The project moved 147,000 equivalent album units in its first week, including an impressive 78,000 in traditional sales — a standout figure in today’s streaming-driven market (per Billboard).

The achievement marks Moroney’s first time atop the all-genre chart and makes her one of the few women in country music to accomplish the feat in the past decade, following Beyoncé’s 2024 chart-topper Cowboy Carter. It also represents the strongest opening week for a female country artist in nearly two years and the biggest total debut for any country act so far in 2026.

Beyond leading the Billboard 200, Cloud 9 debuted at No. 1 on Top Album Sales and No. 2 on Top Streaming Albums. The album’s momentum was sparked by the hit single “6 Months Later,” along with fan favorites such as “Beautiful Things,” “Who Hurt You?” and “Wish I Didn’t.” Guest appearances from Kacey Musgraves and Ed Sheeran add to the project’s broad appeal.

The milestone builds on the steady rise of Moroney’s previous releases. Her 2024 album Am I Okay? peaked at No. 9, while her 2023 debut Lucky reached No. 38. Moroney exclaimed: “Not to be cliche, but I’m on cloud 9! I have to give credit to my fans, they’re the best in the world. To have them embrace an album like this is a dream come true. I can’t wait till we’re screaming these songs together on The Cloud 9 Tour!”

In support of the new album, Moroney will be launching her ‘Cloud 9’ tour. The 49-date world tour kicks-off May 29th at Schottenstein Center in Columbus, OH, with dates through October at some of the biggest arenas in North America, Europe, and the UK — including New York City’s Barclays Center, Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, United Center in Chicago, and Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. SZA shares the song ‘Save The Day’ from the Pixar film ‘Hoppers’

SZA has released a new single, “Save the Day,” created for the upcoming Disney-Pixar film Hoppers, which arrives in theaters March 6.

Set in a futuristic world where “scientists have discovered how to ‘hop’ human consciousness into lifelike robotic animals,” Hoppers follows Mabel, an animal lover who uses new technology to enter the mind of a robotic beaver and communicate directly with wildlife. The film is co-directed by Daniel Chong and Nicole Grindle and features a voice cast that includes Meryl Streep, Dave Franco, Kathy Najimy, Jon Hamm and Sam Richardson.

For Chong, collaborating with SZA was especially meaningful. He has shared that her music played a personal role during production, explaining, “SZA’s music saved me during the making of this movie. It was a lifeline during the stress of the filmmaking process, a voice that comforted and inspired me through it all. It felt so perfect to have an original song by SZA, to have her give voice to the movie and its hopeful themes.”

Chong and Grindle were already fans, having used SZA’s songs “Good Days” and “Saturn” as temporary placeholders in the film’s credits before ultimately reaching out to her. According to Chong, the collaboration felt natural once she saw the project. “I think there was an intuitiveness in talking with SZA that when she saw the movie, I think she immediately knew what the movie needed,” he said.

The full soundtrack, which also features an original score by Mark Mothersbaugh, will be released the same day as the film. Fans can also preorder a special “Save the Day” vinyl shaped like Mabel, available exclusively through Disney Music Emporium.

‘Sinners’ takes top prize at the 2026 Actor Awards: see the full list of winners

The 32nd annual Actor Awards — the ceremony formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards — were held on Sunday, streamed live on Netflix from Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium and hosted by returning emcee Kristen Bell.

‘Sinners’ emerged as the night’s biggest surprise winner, capturing Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and throwing fresh suspense into the final stretch before the 98th Academy Awards. The Actor Awards are widely seen as a key predictor of Oscar momentum, which is what makes the victory for writer-director Ryan Coogler’s blues-infused vampire epic so significant. The film had been trailing behind Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘One Battle After Another,’ which dominated much of awards season with wins at major ceremonies including the Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and guild awards.

With the win, Coogler made history as the first director to guide two films to the guild’s top ensemble honor, following his 2019 triumph for Black Panther. Accepting the ensemble prize, cast member Delroy Lindo told the crowd, “From the bottom of our hearts, to the bottom of your hearts, thank you so much for everything.”

The night brought another surprise when Michael B. Jordan claimed Best Male Actor for his dual performance in Sinners, beating out frontrunner Timothée Chalamet and fellow nominee Leonardo DiCaprio. A visibly stunned Jordan admitted, “I wasn’t expecting this at all,” before adding with a grin, “Yeah, man, this is pretty cool.”

Meanwhile, Jessie Buckley continued her strong awards-season run, winning Best Female Actor for Hamnet. Supporting honors went to Sean Penn for One Battle After Another and Amy Madigan for Weapons.

On the television side, Catherine O’Hara received a posthumous win for Best Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her role as a studio executive in The Studio. Co-creator and co-star Seth Rogen accepted on her behalf, remembering her generosity and creative brilliance.

The Studio also won Best Comedy Series Ensemble, while Rogen picked up Best Male Actor in a Comedy Series. In drama categories, The Pitt won ensemble honors, and Noah Wyle took Best Male Actor. Keri Russell earned Best Female Actor in a Drama Series for The Diplomat.

The night also celebrated Hollywood icon Harrison Ford, who received the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award, presented with affectionate wit by Woody Harrelson. Reflecting on his decades-long career, Ford quipped, “I’m in a room with actors, many of whom are here because they’ve been nominated to receive a prize for their amazing work, while I’m here to receive a prize for being alive.” Calling the moment “the half point” of his journey, he grew emotional, later adding, “I’m indeed a lucky guy,” and expressing gratitude for a career that has continued to challenge and fulfill him.

Suspect identified in Austin bar shooting that left 2 dead, 14 injured; probe into terrorism continues

Investigators have identified the man accused of opening fire outside a busy downtown Austin bar early Sunday, killing at least two people and injuring 14 others, in an attack now under federal review for possible terrorism links.

Multiple law enforcement sources named the suspect as Ndiaga Diagne, a 53-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Senegal who had lived in the United States for roughly 15 years. Officials say the investigation remains in its early stages and details could change.

According to Austin Police Department Chief Lisa Davis, officers were dispatched to Buford’s beer garden just before 2 a.m. after reports of gunfire. Preliminary findings indicate the suspect drove an SUV around the block several times before stopping, activating his hazard lights and lowering a window. He then began firing a handgun toward people gathered on the patio and sidewalk. Authorities say he later exited the vehicle with a rifle and continued shooting along West Sixth Street before encountering officers, who shot and killed him. A pistol and rifle were recovered at the scene, and additional weapons were found inside the SUV.

Emergency crews were already stationed in the entertainment district when the call came in. Austin-Travis County EMS Chief Robert Luckritz said first responders arrived within seconds and began treating victims immediately. Three people were reported in critical condition among those hospitalized.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has joined the case through its Joint Terrorism Task Force. Acting Special Agent Alex Doran said there were indicators involving the suspect and his vehicle that suggest a “potential nexus to terrorism,” but cautioned it is too soon to determine motive. Investigators are examining whether the gunman may have self-radicalized, while also considering reports that he had experienced prior mental health episodes in Austin. Officials believe he acted alone and have found no evidence of direct ties to a foreign government.

Sources told investigators the suspect arrived in the U.S. in 2006 and became a citizen in 2013 after spending time in New York before relocating to Pflugerville, Texas. He was reportedly wearing a sweatshirt reading “Property of Allah” during the attack. Federal agents are executing search warrants and reviewing background information, including possible online activity.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced increased security measures statewide, directing additional patrols in downtown Austin and activating members of the Texas Military Department under Operation Fury Shield. He said patrols and surveillance have also been expanded around critical infrastructure. Abbott said: “Texas mourns with the families and loved ones of those who were horrifically killed in last night’s attack in Austin. Cecilia and I pray for them, and we pray for the swift recovery of those who were injured.” He added: “This act of violence will not define us, nor will it shake the resolve of Texans. To anyone who thinks about using the current conflict in the Middle East to threaten Texans or our critical infrastructure, understand this clearly: Texas will respond with decisive and overwhelming force to protect our state.”
