Red Hot Chili Peppers to receive Global Icon Award at 2022 MTV VMAs

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are set to receive the Global Icon Award at the 2022 MTV VMAs, airing Sunday, August 28 at 8. p.m. ET/PT from Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

The band, who have previously won eight VMAs, will return to the show’s stage for the first time in more than two decades. They last performed in 2000 when they received the Video Vanguard Award.  This year they have earned their 29th nomination – and first since 2006 – in the Best Rock category for “Black Summer,” the lead single from their twelfth studio album, “Unlimited Love.”

Earlier this week, MTV announced that LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj and Jack Harlow will co-host this year’s VMAs. Minaj is set to receive this year’s Vanguard Award.
