Israel government votes to approve deal for hostage release; short cease fire

The Israeli government said in a statement late Tuesday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government have approved a deal for the release of some of the hostages held by Hamas. The news came after Netanyahu convened his war cabinet to discuss the deal following recent negotiations.

The statement read: “The Government of Israel is obligated to return home all of the hostages. Tonight, the Government has approved the outline of the first stage of achieving this goal, according to which at least 50 hostages – women and children – will be released over four days, during which a pause in the fighting will be held. The release of every additional ten hostages will result in one additional day in the pause.”

CBS News confirmed that the proposed deal, brokered by the U.S. and Qatar, would allow for an initial group of 50 hostages held by Hamas to be released in phases during pauses in the fighting in Gaza. The proposed deal will include a limited pause in the fighting for four or five days, and during the pauses, overheard surveillance will be halted.

Netanyahu said President Biden had joined the effort to improve the outline of the deal: “In recent days, I have spoken with our friend, U.S. President Joe Biden, and I requested his intervention in order to improve the outline that will be presented to you. Indeed, it has been improved to include more hostages and at a lower cost. These talks have been productive. President Biden joined in the effort and I thank him for it.”

The Israeli government said that along with the IDF and Israel’s security services, they would continue the war in order to return home all of the hostages and “complete the elimination of Hamas and ensure that there will be no new threat to the State of Israel from Gaza.”

Gunman dead after shooting at Ohio Walmart leaves 4 wounded

Four people were shot Monday night at a Walmart in Beavercreek, Ohio, by a man who walked in and started firing, before turning the gun on himself. Police said the gunman entered the store at about 8:30 p.m. Monday wielding a Hi-Point 45-caliber Carbine long gun. He shot an undetermined number of rounds, leaving injured victims throughout the building, before turning the weapon on himself, authorities said.

The shooting at the Walmart in Beavercreek injured three women and one man. Police said three of the victims are in critical condition and the fourth victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, in an update Tuesday morning. Authorities declined to release the identities of the victims, including their races. FBI Cincinnati Field Office Assistant Special Agent Zrinka Dilber said the FBI is looking at the shooter’s background and motivation. and asked the public to assist the FBI by calling and providing any tips

Beavercreek Mayor Bob Stone said during a Tuesday news conference: “Tragedy struck our beloved community Monday evening, and, in the face of adversity, the strength of our community shines through.” Walmart said it was working closely with investigators to try to determine why the shooter, identified as 20-year-old Benjamin Charles Jones, of Dayton, opened fire. Walmart said in a statement: “We’re heartbroken by what’s happened at our Beavercreek, Ohio, store. This remains a developing situation, and we’re working closely with investigators on the scene.”

It was the second shooting in 24 hours to take place at a store operated by the retail giant. On Sunday night in Alaska, a man shot and killed a woman before fatally shooting himself outside a Walmart in Anchorage, Alaska. Police in Anchorage said Tuesday it was a domestic-violence related crime.

All-pro linebacker Shaquille Leonard waived by Indianapolis Colts in surprise move

On Tuesday, the Indianapolis Colts released 28-year-old former All-Pro linebacker Shaquille Leonard, incurring a potential $27.7 million dead cap hit if another team does not sign him. The Colts will pay Leonard $15.7 million in base salary this season, unless another team claims him on waivers and absorbs the remaining weeks.

Leonard said on X: “Indy, I want to thank you for accepting me and my family with open arms. These past 6 years has been nothing but incredible! Through he good times and bad (times) y’all stood by my side. I apologize for not bringing that trophy back to the 317. The energy in Lucas Oil has been nothing but amazing and I thank you for every memory. I’m thankful to play for such an amazing fan base. I love you guys and wish the Colts nothing but the best! Maniac out.”

Leonard is a three-time All-Pro who just last season won the franchise’s Walter Payton Man of the Year and Ed Block Courage awards. Leonard worked his way back from a second surgery to correct a nerve issue in his back, but had been vocal about his lack of playing time this season. The Colts played him mostly on base defense while using E.J. Speed more on passing downs.  Colts owner Jim Irsay said on X: “Colts Nation will always remember The Maniac’s palpable energy on the field with each tackle, interception, punch-out and fumble recovery. Off the field, he’s a servant leader and assisted numerous families in both his hometown and the Indianapolis community. We’re thankful for Shaq and the contributions he made to our organization. We wish him and his beautiful family the best moving forward.”

Leonard arrived as a second-round pick out of South Carolina State in the 2018 draft; he soon led the league with 163 tackles as a rookie and winning Defensive Rookie of the Year and being named a first-team All-Pro. He followed that stellar year with first- or second-team All-Pro selections the next three seasons; from 2018-21, he provided 15 sacks, 17 forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries and 11 interceptions. The Colts made Leonard the highest-paid linebacker in the game with a five-year, $98.5 million contract in the summer of 2021; however, he underwent surgery in June 2022 and sat out training camp, returning to play parts of two games before opting for a second surgery.

New Orleans Saints place WR Michael Thomas on injured reserve

In news first reported by NewOrleans.Football’s Brooke Kirchhofer, the New Orleans Saints are placing wide receiver Michael Thomas on injured reserve.  Thomas will be out for a minimum of four games before being eligible to return after the Giants home game on Dec. 17, and is expected to return this season. He will miss the team’s matchups against the Falcons, Lions, Panthers, and Giants.

While Thomas’ exact injury is still unknown at this point, it is related to his knee and occurred on the first offensive play against the Vikings in Week 10. The team said they were looking at second opinions following the game.

The Saints will add veteran Cameron Dantzler to their active roster as a corresponding move, and the Marquez Callaway to the practice squad transaction will be official on Tuesday.

Justin Moore shares his new song ‘This Is My Dirt’

Justin Moore just dropped his new song, “This Is My Dirt,” the follow-up to his 12th #1 single, “You, Me, and Whiskey” with Priscilla Block.

Moore teamed up with Paul DiGiovanni, Randy Montana and Jeremy Stover to write “This Is My Dirt,” and describes the anthem as “a song about how you grew up, and more specifically, where you grew up. The land I live on today and where I raise my children, is the same land that I grew up on. It has been in our family since the late 1800s. My great, great grandfather raised my grandfather here… My grandpa inherited the land from him, and then I inherited it from my grandpa. So, it’s really special to us, for obvious reasons. But no matter where you grew up, I think everybody holds a special place in their heart for that place — whether it’s a subdivision or thousands of acres, whatever the case may be. This song is about taking pride in wherever it is that you call ‘your dirt.’”

‘The Hunger Games: Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes’ tops North American box office with $44M

The ‘Hunger Games’ franchise prequel film, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, was the No. 1 movie in North America in its debut weekend, earning $44 million in receipts. The film, which received mixed reviews and a 61% score on Rotten Tomatoes, is the worst-reviewed installment in the ‘Hunger Games’ franchise.

The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is set decades before the events of the Hunger Games franchise, and traces the origins of Coriolanus Snow, the primary antagonist of the series. Snow is played in the movie by Tom Blyth, who stars alongside Rachel Zegler — who plays a “tribute” chosen to compete in the titular annual games, in which teenagers compete against each other in a gladiatorial survival battles for the entertainment of the wealthy and the financial security of the oppressed.

Coming in at No. 2 was Trolls Band Together with $30.6 million, followed by The Marvels at No. 3 with $10.2 million, Thanksgiving at No. 4 with $10.2 million and Five Nights at Freddy’s at No. 5 with $3.5 million.

H.E.R. teams with Foo Fighters on double A-Side single ‘The Glass’

After performing with H.E.R. on Saturday Night Live last month, Foo Fighters have released the joint single they performed on the show, “The Glass”.

“The Glass” appears on the band 11th studio album, which was just nominated for three Grammy awards (best rock album and best rock song and best rock performance for “Rescued”).

According to a press release, the H.E.R. version of the song is “nothing short of a revelation — a stunning and singular vocal/guitar performance that wrings new sonic and emotional dimensions from the original.” The double A-side single of the song from the Foos’ most recent album, But Here We Are, will feature the original studio version, as well as H.E.R.’s newly recorded solo reinterpretation of the track.

The Rolling Stones announce 2024 North American Tour

The Rolling Stones announced they will hit the road in North American for the ‘Stones Tour ’24 Hackney Diamonds,’ marking the first time the band has performed stateside in over two years. The Stones resumed touring in September 2021 after the death of original drummer Charlie Watts in August.

The rock legends will embark on a 16-city trek of the U.S. and Canada, kicking off April 28 at Houston’s NRG Stadium and making stops at Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium, Santa Clara’s Levi Stadium, New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, Chicago’s Soldier Field and Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium, where the Super Bowl will be held. The band will also perform at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on May 2.

Presales start Wednesday, November 29th at noon local time before going on sale to the general public on Friday, December 1st at 10 am local time via Ticketmaster.
