Lauren Alaina invited by Trisha Yearwood to become a member of The Grand Ole Opry

10 years after making her debut on the Opry stage, Lauren Alaina was surprised over the weekend and invited to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry by friend/mentor Trisha Yearwood.

Artists were making video appearances sharing their Christmas wishes during the show; and when it was time for Yearwood to share her wish, she said: “Also, is that Lauren Alaina because I think that’s Lauren Alaina, is that you? Junior (her nickname for Alaina), I have a present for you. Hold on.” Yearwood then made her way out to the stage to surprise Alaina, saying: “I have some surprises for you too. I know your Mom is here and I know your Dad is as well. He’s super proud of you right now because I have the honor of asking you on behalf of the Grand Ole Opry if you will please accept our invitation to become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry.” Alaina fell to her knees and began to cry, and after catching her breath she said: “I did not expect this. You are my hero. I could not have picked a more perfect person to ask me. She calls me Junior- y’all I’m in her phone as Junior which is the coolest thing to have happened to me besides this!”

Said Yearwood: “You are the real deal. You’ve played over 50 times. It’s obvious what this means to you. This is a very special club to be in so you have to understand what the Opry means to be asked. It’s such an honor. Country music is in good hands with you. Soak up every second!”

Alaina’s induction into the Opry will take place in early 2022, with a date TBD.

Chris Lane reveals he is battling COVID-19 Omicron variant

Chris Lane has tested positive for a breakthrough case of the coronavirus, sharing his diagnosis on his Instagram Story and saying: “Well… COVID finally got me. It finally got my hind end.” He also shared that he has the new Omicron variant of COVID, adding, “Praying the rest of the family doesn’t get it.” Lane is married to Lauren Bushnell Lane, 31, with whom he shares their 6-month-old son, Dutton Walker. Bushnell Lane shared earlier this year that the couple had received the COVID vaccine.

The 37-year-old Lane’s diagnosis also comes ahead of his Fill Them Boots tour, which is set to kick off Jan. 13. The Omicron variant of COVID-19 is the most contagious yet, has more mutations than any before it, and seems to evade the previously-effective two-dose vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna.

Lane joins a number of country artists dealing with COVID; Brett Eldredge was forced to cancel shows over the weekend because he tested positive for COVID-19, and Dan + Shay also scrapped a handful of shows this fall after experiencing some positive COVID-19 cases in their camp.

Carly Pearce announces second leg of her ’29’ tour for 2022

Carly Pearce has announced she’ll continue her headlining ’29 Tour’ in 2022, with the next leg kicking off on March 10.  The ’29 Tour’ takes its name from Pearce’s seven-song EP ‘29′ and subsequent full-length project, ‘29: Written in Stone,’ which added eight new tracks to the ones included on the first version of the record. Joining Pearce on tour is rising country act Hannah Ellis. Tickets for the new dates go on sale on Friday (Dec. 17) at carlypearce.com.

Pearce said of the new leg of the tour: “The experiences that allowed me to write 29 and 29: Written in Stone were some of the most difficult moments of my life, but seeing so many faces singing every word of these 15 songs night after night reminded me of how powerful honesty can be in connecting with others. The way you all showed up is so special, and I’m so grateful to announce another round of The 29 Tour.”

On this new chapter of her tour, Pearce is partnering with nonprofit organization Plus1, which according to their website “aids those in the music industry in supporting social and environmental justice initiatives.”   One dollar of every ticket sold on Carly’s ’29 Tour” will benefit tornado relief efforts in her home state of Kentucky — one of the hardest hit during a sweeping tornado outbreak in mid-December. Pearce explains of her decision to partner with Plus1:  “There are a lot of people from my Kentucky home who are going through a really devastating time right now with their lives completely changed overnight so having the opportunity to help with some of the rebuilding is so important to me.”

Garth Brooks announces two back-to-back Las Vegas shows in February 2022

Garth Brooks is heading to Las Vegas in early February for two back-to-back shows billed as “Garth Brooks: The ONE Man Show,” to take place at Dolby Live at Park MGM on Feb. 4 and Feb. 5.

The double-header are just days before Brooks turns 60 years old on Feb. 7, and Brooks says the dates will serve as a birthday party of sorts, noting in a press release: “I look forward to celebrating my birthday early that weekend in Vegas. Getting to sing and hear everyone singing is my favorite thing.”

Brooks postponed most of his 2021 tour plans due to the rise of the Delta variant of COVID-19, during which time he opted instead for smaller, more intimate shows at Nashville venues like the Ryman Auditorium and the Grand Ole Opry.  Brooks has stated that his 2022 Stadium Tour will be its final year; he’s hinted that he’s already planning something new when the run concludes.

Tickets for Brooks’ Vegas shows go on sale Dec. 22 at 10AM PST. Limited seating is available, and there will be a six-ticket cap per purchase.
