Former aide of NY Governor Cuomo details harassment and misconduct claims against him

A former member of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration offered new details Wednesday of sexual harassment claims she made against him, saying he once kissed her on the lips without consent after a private meeting. Lindsey Boylan, an economic advisor in Cuomo’s administration, said that during her more than three years working for him Cuomo “would go out of his way to touch me on my lower back, arms and legs,” amongst other accusations.

Boylan wrote in a blog post on the website Medium that the kiss happened after she gave Cuomo a one-on-one briefing on economic and infrastructure projects in his New York City office. Boylan, a Democrat running for Manhattan borough president, confirmed that she had posted the blog and said decided to elaborate because she hoped it would empower other women to come forward. She said the governor created a culture of pervasive sexual harassment, and that two other former Cuomo staffers have privately confided in her that they were also sexually harassed by the governor in the workplace.

The new detailed account of Boylan’s allegations against Cuomo comes amid mounting criticism against the Governor. Boylan had tweeted back in December that Cuomo sexually harassed her, but she didn’t reveal details and declined interview requests. At the time, Cuomo denied that he did anything inappropriate. Cuomo’s spokesperson Caitlin Girouard said Wednesday that all of Boylan’s “claims of inappropriate behavior are quite simply false.”

Millions in Texas still without power as death toll rises after major snowfall and record cold

Millions of people are still without electricity, hundreds of flights were canceled and the death toll rose due to a major winter storm spanning from the Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic that produced deep snow record-breaking cold temperatures.

The storm hit Texas hard, a state which rarely sees extreme cold and snow, resulting in more than 4 million people in the state to lose power on Tuesday. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said in a news conference that 1.3 million people were without power in the Houston region. In Fort Worth, about 100,000 people were told to boil their water after a treatment plant lost power. Those who could not boil water were encouraged to use bottled water. Officials are working to set up water bottle distribution centers. Freezing rain made travel dangerous, as nearly an inch of ice was measured in Frenchburg, Ky. — more than triple the amount needed to weigh down branches and power lines.

More than two dozen people have died so far, mostly in Texas, in weather-related incidents since last week. The winter storm has led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights, including those from Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Marilyn Manson issues statement after abuse accusations from Evan Rachel Wood and others

Marilyn Manson issued a statement after accusations of abuse from his former girlfriend, Evan Rachel Wood and other women were posted on Instagram. Wood identified the singer, whose given name is Brian Warner, as her alleged abuser when she was 19 and he was 37. Wood and Manson began publicly dating in 2007 and got engaged in 2010 before splitting up in August of that year. Others who accused Manson of misconduct on Instagram include Sarah McNeilly, Ashley Lindsay Morgan, Ashley Walters, Charlyne Yi, Brittany Leigh and Scarlett Kapella, as well as two more whose display names on Instagram are Torii and Gabriella.

On his own Instagram, Manson denied the allegations, calling his accusers’ statements “horrible distortions of reality.”  Manson said, “Obviously, my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality. My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners. Regardless of how — and why — others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth.”

Shortly after Manson released his statement, Creative Artists Agency (CAA) said they are no longer representing the artist. This comes after Manson’s record label, Loma Vista Recordings, also cut ties with performer. AMC’s Shudder has removed Manson from its horror anthology series “Creepshow,” and Starz vowed to cut Manson from an upcoming episode of “American Gods.”

Major League Baseball Recognizes Negro Leagues as “Major League” With Stats To Be Added To MLB Records

Major League Baseball has reclassified the Negro Leagues as a major league, and said it will count statistics and official records from its thousands of Black players. MLB said in a news release on Wednesday that it is “correcting a longtime oversight in the game’s history” with the elevation of the Negro Leagues to major league status.  About 3,400 players in seven Negro Leagues competed from 1920 to 1948 as “major league-caliber ballplayers,” MLB said.

MLB officials had discussions with the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum and the Negro League Researchers and Authors Group, and considered studies by other baseball researchers before the decision was made to reclassify the Negro Leagues.

The Negro National League I, which operated from 1920 through 1931, was the first of the Negro Leagues. The Eastern Colored League ran from 1923 to 1928. The American Negro League operated in 1929. The East-West League and Negro Southern League each operated in 1932.
