The 64th annual Grammy Awards were held on Sunday, hosted by Trevor Noah and airing live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on CBS.

Among the night’s big winners were Jon Batiste, who took home Album of the Year for We Are. Olivia Rodrigo took home Best Pop Vocal Album for Sour, and also won Best New Artist.  Silk Sonic, comprised of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, won Song of the Year and Record of the Year for “Leave the Door Open.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed viewers at home in a pre-recorded video, where he spoke about Russia invading his country and the ongoing conflict, saying in part: “Our musicians wear body armor instead of tuxedos. They sing to the wounded. In hospitals. Even to those who can’t heart them. But the music will break through anyway. We defend our freedom. To live. To love. To sound. Our land, we are fighting Russia, which brings horrible silence with its bombs. The dead silence. Fill the silence with your music! Fill it today. To tell our story. Tell the truth about this war on your social networks, on TV. Support us in any way you can. Any, but not silence, and peace will come.”

Respects were paid to the late Taylor Hawkins, drummer of the Foo Fighters, who died on March 25. Foo Fighters were supposed to perform during the show, but canceled because of Hawkins’ recent death. A video was shown highlighting Hawkins’ career before the Grammys launched into its annual In Memorial segment, which paid homage to all of those in the music industry who have died over the past year, including Dusty Hill of ZZ Top, DMX, Biz Markie, Stephen Sondheim and more.

11 people injured and one killed in shooting at Saturday night concert in southern Dallas

Dallas Police have confirmed that at least 11 people were shot and one person was killed in a Saturday night shooting during a trail ride and concert in southern Dallas.

Police said they responded to a shooting call at 5050 Cleveland Road in southern Dallas at approximately 12:13 a.m. on Sunday, and upon arriving at the scene, found a 26-year-old man identified as Kealon Dejuane Gilmore lying near a stage with a gunshot wound to his head. Police said Gilmore was pronounced dead at the scene, and described Gilmore’s death as a homicide.  An additional 11 victims of the shooting — including three juveniles — were transported to an area hospital by either ambulance or private vehicle. One of those victims was in critical condition as of late Sunday morning, while the remaining victims were in stable condition.

As many as 2,000 people were in attendance at the open-air event, which was billed as the Second Annual Epic Easter Bike Out & Field Party. The event was to be headlined by Memphis rapper Big Boogie, but according to a post on the performer’s Instagram page, the shooting occurred before he arrived at the venue.  According to witnesses, the situation arose from a fight that broke out on the scene, and some also believed that there were multiple shooters. Police confirmed that their preliminary investigation determined one unknown individual at the event fired a gun into the air, followed by another unknown individual firing a gun in the direction of the crowds.

Police said their investigation into the shooting, its motive and the circumstances surrounding Gilmore’s death are still under investigation.  As of press time, no arrests relating to the shooting have yet been made.

Tiger Woods to make ‘game-time decision’ to play at 2022 Masters

Tiger Woods said via Twitter on Sunday that he was headed to Augusta National to prep for the Masters, for what would be his first tournament since his devastating car crash more than 13 months ago. The 46-year-old Woods, a five-time Masters winner, last won the tournament in 2019.  After his tweet, he was on the tournament practice range at Augusta National on Sunday afternoon, and after hitting balls for about 20 minutes, he went to the 10th tee and was expected to play nine holes.

The 15-time major champion last played at the PNC Championship’s father-son event with his son, Charlie, in December 2021. Prior to that, he made his last official tournament appearance at the 2020 Masters in November.  Until Sunday, he had not said anything publicly about his participation in what would be his 24th Masters, however speculation began after he played a practice round on Tuesday at Augusta National with Charlie, and 14-time PGA Tour winner and friend, Justin Thomas.

Woods’ single-car crash in 2021 caused him open fractures in the upper and lower portions of his right leg, and additional injuries to his foot and ankle which required screws and pins to be inserted. In April, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Woods’ crash was caused by driving at an unsafe speed and that he was going 75 miles per hour when his vehicle hit a tree.

The 2022 Masters tournament runs from April 7-10.

The 27-year-old Castro had a 3.45 ERA over a career-best 69 appearances last season, going 3-4 with 77 strikeouts in 70⅓ innings. He will make $2.62 million this season after signing a deal this month to avoid arbitration.
