The book “Aerosmith On Tour: 1973-1985” is available now

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the classic Aerosmith lineup — Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer — a new book, Aerosmith On Tour: 1973-1985, has been released, which chronicles the band’s career on the road for the first time. Written by Julian Gill, Aerosmith On Tour: 1973-1985 unveils its tale via local reviews, eyewitness reports, press accounts and interviews with key insiders.

The 612-page book is enhanced with visual material (concert and record ads, vintage reviews, and photographs) and follows the band as they launch their career as the opening act for The Kinks, Humble Pie and the Mahavishnu Orchestra, before their breakthrough success with albums Toys In The Attic and Rocks in the late ’70s.

The group has gone on to sell more than 150 million albums around the world since being founded 50 years ago. They were the first rock band with a massive commercially successful hip-hop collaboration with Run-DMC on “Walk This Way” and the first hard rock band to appear during a Super Bowl Halftime Show with their 2001 performance, and in 1999, Aerosmith became the first band to have their own themed attraction at Disney World in Florida, and later Paris with the launch of the Rock ‘N’ Roller coaster starring Aerosmith.

Dave Mustaine teases new Megadeth song ‘Life In Hell’

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has shared a new preview of a song, titled “Life In Hell,” from the band’s forthcoming sixteenth album.  The 12-second snippet was shared in a Cameo clip that Mustaine had filmed for a fan named Gabe. According to Mustaine, Gabe is “the first person in the outside world – outside of the studio and the band and my family – that’s heard any music from the new record.” The track is suggested by Mustaine in the video to be the second track on the album, which has been provisionally titled The Sick, The Dying and the Dead.

No release date has been confirmed for the new album, but it has been slated to drop sometime in 2022. In another video posted to Cameo in July, Mustaine had revealed to another fan that there is a song already confirmed for the record called “The Dogs of Chernobyl.”

NYC public schools to reopen January 3rd with increased in-school COVID-19 testing amid Omicron surge

Upon reopening after the holiday break on January 3rd, New York City public schools will expand in-school coronavirus testing, but relax quarantine rules for students in a bid to keep them in class as much as possible amid skyrocketing infection and hospitalization rates.  NYC Mayor de Blasio announced Tuesday that roughly 80,000 students will be tested every week across the public school system once classes resume. de Blasio said in a virtual briefing at City Hall that while only unvaccinated students were eligible for the randomized in-school surveillance tests at the start of the school year, vaccinated kids will now also be able to get them. In another policy shift, de Blasio said students who are exposed to an infected classmate will receive an at-home rapid test kit that their parents should administer as soon as they’re home. Students who are negative on the at-home test can return to school the very next day as long as they’re asymptomatic — a marked shift from the previous mandatory 10-day quarantine rule for kids exposed to an infected classmate.

de Blasio, who leaves office on Saturday, was joined for his briefing by incoming Mayor Eric Adams and New York Gov. Hochul. “We have a lot of evidence now that tells us this is going to be the approach that works in the future,” de Blasio said, citing data from the Health Department indicating 98% of kids who have a close interaction with an infected classmate do not contract the virus. Gov. Hochul added that her administration is setting aside 2 million at-home testing kits for city schools that can be distributed to students as needed in the event of a positive case.

Adams, who’s set to be sworn in as de Blasio’s successor on Saturday, noted that data indicates children are at a comparatively low risk of catching COVID-19 in school. “Your children are safer in school, the numbers speak for themselves,” said Adams.  However, he also suggested at a later press conference he may adjust the outgoing mayor’s school plan once he takes over. “We’re going to roll out our plan. It’s going to be a very clear plan,” Adams said at Brooklyn Borough Hall.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians tests positive for COVID-19

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced on Tuesday afternoon that head coach Bruce Arians has tested positive for COVID-19. Arians is isolating at home with mild symptoms, and assistant head coach/run game coordinator Harold Goodwin will be the team’s acting head coach until his return. The team also announced starting cornerbacks cornerbacks Sean Murphy-Bunting and Jamel Dean were placed on the reserve/COVID list on Tuesday.

Said Arians, per the team’s official website:  “I tested positive for COVID-19 this morning (Tuesday) but have only experienced mild symptoms to this point. Harold Goodwin will take over my duties during my absence. I have complete confidence in him and the rest of our coaching staff to prepare the team for this week’s game against the Jets. I look forward to rejoining the team and being back in the facility as soon as I can test back in.”

Murphy-Bunting and Dean are the latest Buccaneers to be placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list, joining wide receivers Mike Evans and Jaelon Darden, as well as defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches. Their availability for the Jets game is in doubt, but under newly-adjusted NFL protocols, vaccinated players who test positive can return with after two negative tests, 24 hours apart, if asymptomatic.

The Buccaneers are preparing for a road game against the New York Jets on Sunday. The team already has clinched an NFC playoff spot and the NFC South title, but the No. 1 seed in the conference remains within reach.

Indianapolis Colts place QB Carson Wentz on COVID-19 list

The Indianapolis Colts announced on Tuesday that they have placed quarterback Carson Wentz on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Wentz, who is unvaccinated, could miss the Colts’ Week 17 game against the Las Vegas Raiders if he tested positive for COVID-19. He would be out for five days if he is a close contact, which means he still could play, according to NFL protocol. If Wentz doesn’t clear protocol, Colts second-string quarterback Sam Ehlinger is expected to start Sunday in Indianapolis.

The Colts won their Week 16 contest against the Arizona Cardinals despite more than a dozen players on the reserve/COVID-19 list being absent. A total of 106 NFL players went on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, pushing the total to 521 players in December. The Jacksonville Jaguars led NFL teams with nine players placed on the list Monday. The Cincinnati Bengals placed second-string quarterback Brandon Allen and defensive back Darius Phillips on the list Monday.

The Colts (9-6) host the Raiders (8-7) at 1 p.m. EST Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Hall of Fame NFL coach and broadcaster John Madden dies at age 85

Former NFL broadcaster, and Hall of Fame coach John Madden has died at age 85. Madden passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, according to the league’s announcement.  NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said of Madden’s death: “On behalf of the entire NFL family, we extend our condolences to Virginia, Mike, Joe and their families. We all know him as the Hall of Fame coach of the Oakland Raiders and broadcaster who worked for every major network, but more than anything, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Nobody loved football more than Coach. He was football. He was an incredible sounding board to me and so many others. There will never be another John Madden, and we will forever be indebted to him for all he did to make football and the NFL what it is today.”

Madden’s exuberant personality at both the NFL sidelines and in the broadcasting booth made him a legendary figure in the sport.  Madden never got the chance to play in the National Football League because of injuries, but in 1969 at age 32, he became the league’s youngest (at the time) to be hired as a head coach of the Oakland Raiders. Madden retired in 1979 after coaching the Oakland Raiders for 10 years.  During his 10 seasons coaching the Raiders, Madden’s teams never had a losing record and he led Oakland to the playoffs eight times. In January 1977, the Raiders won Super Bowl XI, beating the Minnesota Vikings 32-14 under Madden’s guidance.

Madden found his true calling a few years later as a color analyst with CBS. He went on to work for the other three major networks, winning 16 Emmys altogether, before retiring after 30 years in the broadcast booth. His name became perhaps most famous in the video game industry with the ‘Madden NFL’ series, for which he lent his voice.  The Madden NFL series has sold more than 250 million copies worldwide, earning over $4 billion. He was also inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 2006.

Madden is survived by his wife Virginia and two sons, Joseph and Michael.
