Lil Nas X announces upcoming Kanye West-produced single “Industry Baby”

Lil Nas X announced the release of his upcoming single, “Industry Baby,” featuring Jack Harlow, and co-produced by Kanye West and frequent collaborators Take A Daytrip. Industry Baby is set to appear on Lil Nas X’s upcoming debut album, and is the follow-up to his single, “Sun Goes Down,” which dropped back in May.

Along with the announcement, the rapper shared a short preview video with a humorous take on his legal issues with Nike over his “Satan Shoe” collaboration with New York-based art collective MSCHF. In a lawsuit, Nike claimed the unauthorized shoes were “likely to cause confusion…and create an erroneous association between MSCHF’s products and Nike.” MSCHF was subsequently barred from sending out any remaining pairs of the shoe.

Industry Baby is set to be released on July 23rd; you can pre-save it: here.

Canada announced plans to reopen border to fully-vaccinated American travelers

Canadian health officials announced on Monday that American citizens who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will be allowed entry into Canada for non-essential travel, beginning next month. The Public Health Agency of Canada said in an official update that beginning Aug. 9, Americans who have completed regimens of approved vaccines can enter the country for discretionary travel if they can provide proof of vaccination and meet several other criteria. Unvaccinated American children under the age of 12 will also be allowed entry after Aug. 9 if accompanied by a qualified parent or adult guardian.

When the new rules are implemented, non-essential travel between the United States and Canada would be allowed to resume for the first time since the earliest stages of the pandemic in March 2020. The government said it intends to further open its borders starting Sept. 7 when it will allow fully vaccinated travelers from any country to enter Canada as long as they can show they had become immunized at least 14 days before entry.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters his government has been in “close communication” with the U.S. administration about the move, saying: “I can tell you that as we made decisions around reopening to the world in early September and to American travelers a few weeks before that we kept the American government fully apprised of exactly those issues,” adding, “every country makes its own decisions about its own borders.”

Ben & Jerry’s to stop sales of ice cream in occupied Palestinian territories

Ben & Jerry’s, which is owned by Unilever, will no longer sell ice cream in occupied Palestinian territories, saying it’s inconsistent with the values of the socially conscious brand. The ice cream company has been doing business in Israel since 1987. The Vermont-based company has aligned itself with liberal causes, including diverting some funds destined for police departments and investing “that money in community-driven solutions that foster real health, peacekeeping, and safety.” The company called on the United States to end white supremacy and launched a podcast on racism in America last year.

Customers have criticized the company for its business in Israel, particularly in West Bank settlements, arguing it doesn’t align with Ben & Jerry’s liberal image. In 2015, Ben & Jerry’s posted on its website that it was “keenly aware of how complex the local market can be,” and it believed it could affect positive change by maintaining a presence in the region. However on Monday, Ben & Jerry’s had a change of heart, saying it heard and recognized the concerns shared by its fans and partners. Ben & Jerry’s said it informed its licensee in Israel that its agreement will not be renewed when it expires at the end of 2022. After then, Ben & Jerry’s will no longer be sold in the Palestinian territories. The company’s ice cream will, however, continue to be sold in Israel, “through a different arrangement.”

Israel’s new prime minister, Naftali Bennett, criticized the decision and said that Ben & Jerry’s has decided to brand itself as the”anti-Israel ice cream.” Ayelet Shaked, Israel’s minister of interior, tweeted, “Your ice cream is not in line with our taste,” she said. “We will manage without you.”

Pittsburgh Steelers sign former Pro Bowler Melvin Ingram to 1-year, $5M deal

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed former Los Angeles Chargers Melvin Ingram to a one-year contract. Ingram, 32, was held without a sack in seven games last season despite a knee ailment that eventually landed him on injured reserve. The 6-2, 247-pound edge rusher was a Pro Bowl pick in each of the previous three seasons and averaged nearly nine sacks per year from 2015-19.

The Steelers led the NFL in sacks last season with 56 but lost starting outside linebacker Bud Dupree to the Tennessee Titans in free agency. Alex Highsmith, a third-round pick who started the final five games last season as a rookie after Dupree tore his anterior cruciate ligament, had been set to take over the role working opposite star pass rusher T.J. Watt.

Team USA alternate gymnast Kara Eaker and basketball player Katie Lou Samuelson test positive for COVID-19

The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee confirmed Monday that an alternate on the women’s gymnastics team had tested positive for the coronavirus. Despite being vaccinated, 18-year-old Kara Eaker tested positive early Monday and began a 10 to 14 day quarantine. Her coach, Al Fong, said in a text message later that day from Tokyo that Eaker “feels fine.” Fong also said that Leanne Wong, another alternate and Eaker’s teammate at his GAGE Center gym in Blue Springs, Mo., is also under quarantine. Wong, who is 17, said at the Olympic trials earlier this month that she had not been vaccinated.

U.S.A. women’s basketball also announced that Katie Lou Samuelson, a member of the 3×3 Olympics team, would miss the Games following a positive test result. Ms. Samuelson was fully vaccinated and took every precaution. Samuelson, 24, wrote in an Instagram post: “Competing in the Olympics has been a dream of mine since I was little girl and I hope someday soon, I can come back to realize that dream.”

Olympics organizers have said repeated testing, social distancing and restrictions on movement would limit, but not eliminate, coronavirus cases. The Games, originally scheduled for 2020, were postponed a year in the hopes the pandemic would have eased. Christophe Dubi, the International Olympic Committee’s sports director, said at a news conference over the weekend “there is no such thing as zero risk,” adding that the Olympic Village would be “a Covid-safe environment but not Covid free.”
