Post Malone shares update after falling on stage during St. Louis concert

Midway through his show at St. Louis’ Enterprise Center on Saturday, Post Malone took a nasty spill during his performance of ‘Circles,’ accidentally falling into an open trap door in the stage. See a fan video of Malone’s onstage fall in St. Louis: here.

Malone was walking down an extended ramp when he accidentally stepped into an uncovered hole that was used to lower his guitar. After crashing onto the stage floor, he clutched his ribcage in pain before calling for medical assistance. After leaving the stage for about 15 minutes, the singer returned and thanked the audience for their patience, telling the crowd:  “There was a big a** hole in the stage.” Still in pain while holding his side, Malone managed to finish with a shortened set that included “Rockstar,” “Cooped Up” (with Roddy Ricch), “Sunflower” and “White Iverson.”

Malone later took to Twitter on Sunday morning to explain what happened in a short video: “Whenever we do the acoustic part of the show, the guitar’s on the guitar stand and it goes down. And there’s this big ass hole, so I go around there and I turn the corner and I bust my ass. Winded me pretty good; got me pretty good.” The singer added that he was taken to the hospital and given a clean bill of health. “They gave me some pain meds and everything, so we can keep kicking ass on the tour.”

President Biden to meet family members of Russian detainees Brittney Griner and Paul Whelan

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed that President Joe Biden will meet with family members of WNBA star Brittney Griner and former Marine Paul Whelan on Friday, as the White House continues to push for their release from detention in Russia.  Jean-Pierre said that Biden will “discuss his continuing commitment to bringing their family members home safely. As we have said before, we believe that Russia is wrongfully detaining Brittany and Paul under intolerable circumstances.” The meetings with Griner’s wife, Cherelle, and Whelan’s sister, Elizabeth, will take place separately. They will be the first in-person meeting between Biden and the family members, after speaking to them by phone in July.

The White House has been in talks with Russian officials over the release of the two Americans, and Biden said last month that he was hopeful a deal could be made to release Griner. But since then, there have been few signs of progress from the administration. In August, after Griner’s sentencing, Russia said it was ready to discuss the possibility of a swap. The Russians are demanding that a Russian spy in U.S. custody be turned over in exchange for Whelan or Griner. The U.S. and Germany have categorically rejected suggestions in Russian state media that Vadim Krasikov, a Russian convicted of a political assassination in Berlin, would be be turned over by German authorities as part of a deal.

Griner was sentenced to nine years in jail by a Moscow court last month, after being arrested at a Moscow airport on Feb. 17 when Russian authorities found cannabis-infused vape cartridges in her luggage. Whelan has been detained since 2018 and is serving a 16-year sentence. The U.S. government has said both have been wrongfully detained.

President Biden announces tentative deal to avert national rail strike

After days of negotiations, President Biden announced Thursday that a deal was reached to avert a national rail strike.  In a statement, Mr. Biden said the entative agreement between the railroads and rail workers’ unions was “an important win for our economy and the American people… and a win for tens of thousands of rail workers who worked tirelessly through the pandemic to ensure that America’s families and communities got deliveries of what have kept us going during these difficult years.”

Mr. Biden said that thanks to the agreement, U.S. rail workers would “get better pay, improved working conditions, and peace of mind around their health care costs: all hard-earned.”  Biden added that the deal was “also a victory for railway companies who will be able to retain and recruit more workers for an industry that will continue to be part of the backbone of the American economy for decades to come.”

The president met with negotiators in the Oval Office later Thursday before delivering formal remarks on the agreement. During his speech at the White House Rose Garden, Biden said “this agreement is a big win for America and for both, in my view, validation of what I’ve always believed: Union and management can work together.  To the American people, this agreement can avert the significant damage that any shutdown would have brought. Our nation’s rail system is the backbone of our supply chain, everything you rely on.”

According to the agreement, rail workers will get an immediate 14% raise, with a total raise of 24% over the course of the five-year deal, the unions said. They will also get annual bonuses of $5,000 and keep their health care copays and deductibles unchanged. All workers will get an extra paid day off and have the ability to take time off for medical reasons, one of the key demands the unions made over the course of negotiations. The deal will now go to the unions for a vote to finalize the agreement.

The Seahawks signed Adams to a four-year deal worth $72 million one year after acquiring him from the Jets. Roger Federer announces his retirement from competitive tennis

Legendary tennis player Roger Federer announced on Thursday that he will retire from the sport after next week’s Laver Cup in London. The 41-year-old Federer posted a letter on social media saying he decided it was time to step away from the ATP Tour, the world’s top tier for men’s tennis.  Federer cited challenges “in the form of injuries and surgeries,” adding, “I’ve worked hard to return to full competitive form. But I also know my body’s capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear….Tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamt, and now I must recognize when it is time to end my competitive career.”

Federer won 20 Grand Slam singles titles, and is considered one of the best players in the history of the sport.  Federer won his first major singles title in 2003 at the age of 21, and went on to dominate the sport along with fellow tennis greats Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic – the “Big Three” of tennis — recognized as the best three men’s players. The ATP ranked Federer as No. 1 for 310 weeks, including a record 237 consecutive weeks. Of his 20 Grand Slam singles victories, his most came at Wimbledon, where he won a record eight times. His most recent Grand Slam final win was at the Australian Open in 2018, but in recent years, injuries have hindered his efforts to continue playing.

As he reflected on his career, Federer wrote: “This is a bittersweet decision, because I will miss everything the tour has given me. But at the same time, there is much to celebrate. I consider myself one of the most fortunate people on Earth. I was given a special talent to play tennis, and I did it at a level that I never imagined, for much longer than I ever thought.”  Federer also thanked his fans for the support they gave him throughout his 24-year career:  “The inspiring feeling of walking into full stadiums and arenas has been one of the huge thrills of my life. Without you, those successes would have felt lonely, rather than filled with joy and energy.”

Wendy Williams seeks treatment for health and substance abuse issues at wellness facility

Wendy Williams’ publicist announced that the former talk show host has checked herself into a wellness center to focus on substance abuse and other health issues. Williams’ representative Shawn Zanotti said in a statement: “She [Williams] is taking some time to focus on her health and wellness as she prepares for a major comeback for the next level in her career with ‘The Wendy Experience Podcast.’  Ms. Williams is being treated by a team of some of the best doctors in the world. We ask for your prayers and well wishes during this time.”  Zanotti did not offer details into what type of facility Williams is being treated at.

The 58-year-old Williams has been open about struggling with substance abuse throughout her career. In 2019, she went on hiatus from her show for two months, in part to treat her Graves’ disease. However, she later revealed that she was living in a sober-living house to help maintain her sobriety.

The Wendy Williams Show officially wrapped its 13-year run in June, but Williams had been absent from her daytime show since October 2021.  Guest hosts including Sherri Shepherd (co-host of The View from 2007-2014), had filled in for her; and now Shepherd has taken over the program’s time slot with her own talk show, Sherri, which premiered this past Monday.
