1 dead, multiple injured after motorboat flips in at Grand Canyon National Park

Officials confirm that one person died and multiple people were injured after a motorboat flipped over in Grand Canyon National Park. According to the park’s Twitter account, the incident took place at Bedrock Rapid on the Colorado River at 2:12 p.m. Saturday.  Emergency personnel were dispatched to treat and transport injured patients.

It was unclear how many people on the motorboat were injured and park officials didn’t immediately send any updates Sunday.  John Dillon, the executive director of the Grand Canyon River Outfitters Association that represents the outfitters permitted in the canyon, said the boat flipped on a technical rapid when it came up against a rock.

Bedrock Rapid features a large rock island that splits the channel left and right, creating difficulty for some rafters. According to GoRafting.com, “you can get into trouble here by failing to make the move around the rock island and flipping off this feature.”

New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones suffers back injury in Week 1 loss to Miami Dolphins

The New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones exited the field at Hard Rock Stadium after the Patriots’ 20-7 loss agains the Miami Dolphins, and headed into an in-stadium X-ray room along with Patriots medical personnel.  In the hour following New England defeat, the team announced that quarterback Mac Jones would be unavailable to meet the media, noting a back injury Jones suffered during the game.

The second-year quarterback took several hard hits from Miami’s defense in Sunday’s game, including a high shot from Dolphins safety Jevon Holland early in the fourth quarter that resulted in a roughing the passer penalty. Jones’ initial X-rays were negative, but he will undergo further evaluation in New England. It’s unclear whether his injury could affect his availability for Week 2.

During Sunday’s game, Jones went 21 of 30 for 213 yards, one touchdown and one interception Sunday.  The Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa threw for 270 yards and routinely connecting with new No. 1 receiver Tyreek Hill.

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt suspected to have torn pectoral muscle

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Pittsburgh Steelers are said to suspect that their star linebacker TJ Watt tore a pectoral muscle against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.  It appeared Watt knew the injury was serious when he was leaving the field; in video footage, Watt can be seen pointing to the left side of his chest and saying, “I tore it.”  Watt is expected to undergo scans on Monday to confirm the diagnosis. The Steelers rely heavily on the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, so if Watt were to miss significant play time, it would be devastating to the team.

Watt left the game with six solo tackles, a sack and an interception. The Steelers defeated the Bengals 23-20 in OT.

Dolly Parton and Kelly Clarkson release new version of the 1980 classic song ‘9 to 5’

Dolly Parton and Kelly Clarkson have teamed up for a reimagined version of Parton’s iconic hit, “9 to 5.” The original version of “9 to 5” appears on Parton’s 1980’s album, 9 to 5 and Odd Jobs.  The remake of the 1980 classic, produced by Shane McAnally, first premiered last spring in the documentary Still Working 9 to 5, which reunited the cast of the original film: Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dabney Coleman.

Parton shared in a press release: “Nobody sings like Kelly Clarkson. She makes any song come alive  I love her voice on ‘9 to 5,’ and I am so proud I got to sing with her on it. I’m equally as proud of the wonderful arrangement and production by Shane McAnally.”

Clarkson added: “I am so honored that Dolly asked me to reimagine this iconic song, ‘9 to 5,’ with her! She is so talented, an inspiration to all women, and one of the sweetest people you will ever meet! I hope y’all like what we did, but even if you don’t, remember I got to sing a duet with the magical Dolly Parton, and now have bragging rights til the end of time!”

“9 to 5” was written by Parton for the iconic comedy film of the same name. The song and film owe their titles to 9to5, an organization founded in 1973 with the aim of bringing about fair pay and equal treatment for women in the workplace. The track went on to earn Parton an Academy Award nomination, four GRAMMY Award nominations as well as two GRAMMY Award wins for Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance.
