Longtime Anaheim Ducks’ captain Ryan Getzlaf announces retirement after 2021-22 season

Longtime Anaheim Ducks’ captain Ryan Getzlaf announced on Tuesday that he is retiring at the conclusion of the 2021-22 NHL season, ending a 17-year career that he spent entirely in Anaheim. Getzlaf was drafted by the Ducks in the first round of the 2003 NHL draft and went on to become one of their best players in franchise history.

Getzlaf said in a statement released by the team: “It’s been an honor to play in the NHL and spend my entire professional career with one organization. None of this would have been possible without my family, who offered unwavering love and support each step of the way. Thank you to our owners, Henry and Susan Samueli, for leading an organization committed to success on the ice, but more importantly, to making a positive impact in our community and to those in need. A special thanks to the general managers, coaches, support staff, teammates, and of course, our fans. Playing for the Ducks and living in Orange County is a dream for an athlete, and much of that is because of you. Thank you all.”

Getzlaf is the Duck’s all-time leader in major categories including regular season games played (1,150), assists (731), total points (1,013), postseason games (125), postseason goals (37), postseason assists (83), and postseason total points (120).  He played a key role in their 2006-07 Stanley Cup run, finishing that postseason with 17 points in 21 games, including two goals and two assists in the Stanley Cup Final series against the Ottawa Senators.

This season, Getzlaf has three goals and 28 assists for 31 total points in 49 games. His last home game with the Ducks will be on April 24 against the St. Louis Blues.

Milwaukee Brewers catcher Pedro Severino receives 80-game suspension for positive PED test

Major League Baseball announced on Tuesday that Milwaukee Brewers catcher Pedro Severino has received an 80-game suspension after testing positive for clomiphene, a fertility treatment classified as a performance-enhancing substance under MLB’s drug policy.

The 28-year-old Severino announced in a statement released by the MLB Players Association that he would not appeal the decision, saying he unknowingly ingested clomiphene — a substance used in fertility treatment that has been known to stimulate testosterone production — after he and his wife began infertility treatments.  Said Severino: “after the 2021 season, we sought medical assistance to determine why we had not succeeded. One of the doctors I consulted with prescribed me with a medication to treat infertility issues. Unfortunately, I now know that the medication contained Clomiphene. I accept responsibility for this mistake and have decided not to challenge my suspension.”

Severino is in his first year with the Brewers after signing a one-year, $1.9-million deal that included an incentives bonus of up to $400,000. He started his career with the Nationals; and in 2019, he was put on waivers and claimed by the Orioles, where he remained for over three seasons.

Korn and Evanescence announce U.S. co-headlining tour

Korn and Evanescence have announced that they will be launching a co-headlining tour across the US this summer. Both bands teased the big news earlier this week on social media by posting the same cryptic video by Nate Hill.

The 18-city run — with soon-to-be-announced special guests — will kick-off on August 16 at Ball Arena in Denver, CO, making stops across the US in Boston, Chicago, Houston and more before wrapping up in Ridgefield, WA on September 16. Korn and Evanescence previously toured together back in 2007, on Korn’s Family Values Tour.

Korn frontman Jonathan Davis said: “We’re looking forward to going on tour this summer and bringing our friends, Evanescence, out. Whenever Amy comes to one of our shows, I always love seeing her on the side of the stage watching the whole set and rocking out. We’re gonna have a great time on this tour, and we can’t wait to see you there.”

Evanescence vocalist Amy Lee added, “I fell hard into Korn’s music in high school. It was an inspiration during the formation of my own band. The chances we’ve had to play together over the years are special, a part of our history. They remain one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen. It’s an honor and a thrill to go out with our friends again, our first full tour together since ‘07. We’re all really looking forward to this.”

Tickets and VIP Packages go on sale starting Friday, April 8 at 10am local time – click here for more information.

Machine Gun Kelly’s ‘Mainstream Sellout’ debuts at No. 1 on Billboard Albums chart

Machine Gun Kelly’s “Mainstream Sellout” hit the top of the Billboard 200 Album chart, making it the first No. 1 rock album in more than a year.  Mainstream Sellout is Machine Gun Kelly’s second straight album to debut at No. 1, following 2020’s “Ticket to My Downfall.”  The last rock album to hit the No. 1 spot was AC/DC’s “Power Up” in December 2020.

Mainstream Sellout was one of two albums to debut in the top 10 this week, the other being Daddy Yankee’s “Legendaddy,” which came in at No. 8, and is being described as Daddy Yankee’s ‘farewell album.’  Billboard reports that “Legendaddy” is the highest-charting Latin album since December 2020.

The Nos. 2, 3 and 4 spots stayed the same from last week: Lil Durk, the “Encanto” soundtrack, and Morgan Wallen. Olivia Rodrigo’s “Sour” re-entered the top 10 at No. 5, while The Weeknd’s greatest hits album and Drake stand at Nos. 6-7. Doja Cat and Gunna rounded out the top 10.
